This song pacifies my masochistic urge to push little kids off play equipment whenever I stroll through the park.

Rule change proposal:

~~A tie in any of the top three positions will be broken by a brief playoff round.  All participants will have the first week of the month to choose one favorite from among the tied entries.  Tiebreaker voting is strongly encouraged but not required.  On the eighth day the one with the most votes gets awarded one bonus point to break the tie.

If you have an opinion on this matter, vote yes or no either here or in the voting thread.  If it passes, it will go into effect this month if needed.

Wouldn´t it be enough to just say that the one who had the most votes for first place (3 points) would be the winner over the one with less votes for first place? And if that can´t tell them apart, the most votes for second place. I realise that theoreticallly there can be songs with the same number of votes for both 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, but for those (maybe one tie out of twenty) it could be okay to tie?

These would sorta resemble the way competitors are told apart in, lets say the high jump and the paul vault at the olympics, the one to clear a hight on first jump is counted as the winner above the one doing it on second jump. What´s good enough for the olympics could be good enough for us.

This is just an idea so far, but if anyone supports it I´ll put it up as an alternative rule change.

Or another, possibly more fun way to settle ties, would be to go with the way to tell ties in the long jump or triple jump apart. If the best jumps are tied, look at the second best, meaning here that two writers having a tie in the comp must put up their second best entries of the month for public voting. (And if one of them doesn´t have a second entry, too bad).

I like that idea because it's quick and doesn't require any additional work.  Let's call it Plan A.  We'll call the tiebreaker round idea Plan B.  And Plan C is to use Plan A first, then resort to Plan B only if necessary.  I vote for Plan C -- which, to clarify, would look something like this:

~~In the event of a tie, the parody with the most first place votes wins.  If it's still tied, the parody with the most second place votes wins.  If it's still tied, a brief playoff round will be held.  All participants will have the first week of the month to choose one favorite from among the tied entries.  Tiebreaker voting is strongly encouraged but not required.  On the eighth day the one with the most votes wins.

Claude - I like the "Most 1st place votes" tie-breaking mechanism -  crisp, clean and easy to figure out.  My 2nd choice would be "Trial By Fire",  I understand it worked very well in olden times...complaints were probably very rare, contestants, however, probably were more likely to end up well-done...

Or, we could try Plan D; which combines the basic elements of Plan B with the initial outline of Plan A, culling out the confusing intricacies of Plan C via the Bovanovsky Method, which synthesises all underlying voting techniques with the butterfly effect.

*crickets chirp off in the distance*

...Ahem, I vote for Plan C.

Just bumping this up to remind everyone that voting starts tomorrow (I'll probably get the voting thread up around noonish) so there's still plenty of time to enter if you haven't yet.  Also, I'm starting to worry that Spaff is thinking about sitting this one out to give others a chance (which would suck if you ask me) so it may be a good month to enter.

Another nice try, C4P, but I won't give up this contest until they pry it from my cold, dead fingers. Especially after Johnny D's brilliant marketing pitch:
