Subject: July SOTM 2000s edition entry thread
Written By: EthanM on 08/01/04 at 7:39 pm
Same rules as Claude Prez' SOTM competition except entries in this (which may be simultaneously entered into Claude's competition) must parodies of songs from the 2000s. For this one you can use a song you submitted any time in 2004 but it will be restricted to the previous month in later contests. You have until august eighth to decide on your entry.

Britney Spears' song "Oops!...I Did It Again" was released on May 16 of 2000 ...
... so ... I'm entering my parody of "Oops!...I Did It Again":
Oops!...I Plugged Me Again

Well, I only wrote one song this month, and it barely missed the cut...by 34 years, so I'm out this round. I'll be happy to read and vote (if I'm eligible to vote) on the songs in the thread though.

I swear I was gonna, but I literally have zero entries from the 2000s this year.

Methinks that there is very little interest or eligibility in this particular contest. I for one was not interested, for the reasons I posted previously. Suppose they gave a parody writiing contest and no one came?

And I guess that the dress code for that "party" will be: Come as you are!
I actually have submitted two to new originals parodies during July. The Motörhead song is so new that noone have even heard of it yet so I´m signing up with The Donnas:
"Who defloured me?
To the tune of "Who invited you?"

Ethan, my problem here is that while I've written a few songs where the originals are from 2000 or later that I think are pretty good, I really DON'T KNOW TOO MANY other songs from 2000+. A couple Red Hot Chili Peppers albums, The Pretender's "Loose Screw" CD & Live DVD Concert from the Wiltern in L.A., Avril Lavigne's CD's, 1 or 2 Dixie Chicks CD (I don't know which came from pre or post 2000?), a Sheryl Crow CD, a Tori Amos CD...I can't think of any separate tracks that I really know... So I would be stuck when it came to voting on other people's entries. And I have to say that there's not too much beyond what I mentioned that I would really want to spend much time trying to listen to from the post-2000 years. Besides, I may still be in some form of "voter-purgatory" from those other contests - I just couldn't keep up on the voting - it started to become too much of a chore instead of fun...But you may attract some of the younger folks on the site and I think that would be a good thing.

Parody of Jay-Z's 99 Problems
"99 Problems (The One Ring is One)" - http://www.amiright.com/parody/2000s/jayz9.shtml
Made it easy. I was debating between this, Hulk, and my Enter Diva song for SoTM, but now since I have one that can be in this, I only have to choose between 2 ;)
