So we have this saying in Sweden that straight up translated becomes "You shouldn't drag everyone over the same comb"...

(Yeah, it doesn't make logical sense in original form either).

... meaning you shouldn't be prejudiced against person or phenomenon X1 just because it resembles the bigger X2, X3, X4 and so forth.

Anyway, trying to find an eqvivalent saying or proverb in English I find that there are at least two:

"Comb everyone with the same brush"
"Tar everyone with the same brush"

But Google has stopped giving numbers of hits so I can't tell which is more common. Option 2 feels funnier, should I choose to use it in a parody, but feel free to chip in on if there are important differences here that I don't automatically see.

I've heard of the concept but not of either phrase, so I decided to Google "with the same brush" (in quotes and in the "web" tab that doesn't barf up AI drivel), and the results were nothing but "tar". Including this Wiktionary page that includes in the "translation" header two Swedish phrases that become "drag everyone over a comb" and "cut everyone over a comb" under the in-Chrome translate option. Hope that helps a little.

Would definitely say “don’t tar everyone with the same brush”.

I don’t recall ever hearing the comb saying though I can work out what it means.

Thanks TCOP and Karen. I'll go with "tar" should I ever use the expression, came up with a different funnier line for now - but knowledge is never a hard burden and I hope this one comes in handy for some other parody here.
