Well, we did it guys!!!! The event has finally happened (thanks to lots of effort from this community) that we have in our possession a song parody project dedicated to H2G2 composed of exactly 42 songs. I'm so happy this generated enough interest to be completed, and I'm so proud to be in the company of so many other great authors. Thanks everybody for a blast of a project!!!! You guys are great.
I may look in on this project again from time to time, but for now there is no other goal to shoot for. For now, let's bask in the COMPLETE-ness of this and enjoy our work. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Below is the list of 42+ songs for the White Album and other Beatles songs, along with the authors responsible for the parodies. If there is interest, post here and I'll include a link to your work and include it in the project. I've jabbered on enough for now, so get to writing you all. Lets make this happen. For Marvin...

I'm thinking "Express Way" for "Birthday" even though that doesn't technically fit syllable-wise I think you could make it work... About the opening of the 1st book and then the Vogons destroying Earth for the same reason the construction company is destroying Arthur's house.
Also...
"So Long And Thanks For All The Fish" works with "Why Don't We Do It In The Road"

Revolution Number 9 is going to be really tough but the actual lyrics are crazy enough to be part of the Hitchhiker's Guide series.

This is such a fun album I'm thinking about taking it on again... I need to come up with a good topic though something that I can write about 30 parodies of and not get bored... That's the hard part!

There are a couple Revolution 9 parodies on site, but tbh only one of them was really seriously done, and done well. "Revolution 42" I think would be the obvious title change, but still...it would be very hard to pull off.

I like the idea of a parody from the POV of Marvin again. Were you thinking of when Marvin is parking cars at Milliways, when he's left and lost in the swamp, or some point earlier?

That's a good point, Karen. I haven't really touched on the 4th or 5th books at all yet. I'll try to find a song for the Rain God and Arthur and Fenchurch flying. Sirius Cybernetics corp might make a guest appearance.
They definitely haven't had their own songs, but I've managed to sneak paraphrased versions of 'don't panic' into several songs, and the same is true of the Krikkit wars. At some point I talked about the 'war on krikkit' and 'where they could stick it'.
Hopefully I can get some more of these written next week, thanks again for the ideas and leads EVERYONE!

I'm thinking you could also do "Zaphod's Stolen Ship" to "Mother Nature's Son" because you don't have a song about the "Heart of Gold" yet and that is just improbable!

And I started work on 'Head for Shelter' to 'Helter Skelter', about the band DISASTER AREA! I've also started one for the RAIN GOD, 'Rain, Dammit, Rain' to 'Cry, Baby, Cry'! Sorry I haven't used your last two ideas Matt. I'll work something out if I can. I like the idea of the Heart of Gold getting another song.

About you know, that part in the third book (I think), that has these parts (googled) about the flying above a planet and most destructive party ever:
“The longest and most destructive party ever held is now into its fourth generation and still no one shows any signs of leaving. Somebody did once look at his watch, but that was eleven years ago now, and there has been no follow up.
“The mess is extraordinary, and has to be seen to be believed, but if you don’t have any particular need to believe it, then don’t go and look because you won’t enjoy it.

Great to hear it, Matty! Rock on, that's one of many references that I would have simply forgotten about.
FYI for everyone: I added a second list of the song parodies completed and grouped them by book referenced and/or by character referenced. Feel free to write about whatever, but this should make it easier to see if a specific character or idea has been covered at least once already.

I would agree. Book 4 was decent, but book 5 was rather weak by comparison to the rest. Douglas Adams stated after writing it that he was in a rather negative place mentally during that time and wasn't necessarily happy with how it reflected in his writing. I've never gotten a chance to read "And Another Thing...", which probably came about because he wasn't happy with book 5.

A minor but important part of the third book was the S.E.P. Field, in case you've forgot here's from my intro for tomorrow's parody "S.E.P. (Someone Else's Problem)" about it:
"An SEP is something we can't see, or don't see, or our brain doesn't let us see, because we think that it's somebody else's problem... The brain just edits it out, it's like a blind spot. If you look at it directly you won't see it unless you know precisely what it is. Your only hope is to catch it by surprise out of the corner of your eye. The technology involved in making something properly invisible is so mind-bogglingly complex that 999,999,999 times out of a billion it's simpler just to take the thing away and do without it... The "Somebody Else's Problem field" is much simpler, more effective, and "can be run for over a hundred years on a single torch battery. This is because it relies on people's natural predisposition not to see anything they don't want to, weren't expecting, or can't explain".
I'm not telling here yet what original song I've used, giving you a twenty hour window to guess, though it shouldn't be too hard... ;)

A minor but important part of the third book was the S.E.P. Field, in case you've forgot here's from my intro for tomorrow's parody "S.E.P. (Someone Else's Problem)" about it:
"An SEP is something we can't see, or don't see, or our brain doesn't let us see, because we think that it's somebody else's problem... The brain just edits it out, it's like a blind spot. If you look at it directly you won't see it unless you know precisely what it is. Your only hope is to catch it by surprise out of the corner of your eye. The technology involved in making something properly invisible is so mind-bogglingly complex that 999,999,999 times out of a billion it's simpler just to take the thing away and do without it... The "Somebody Else's Problem field" is much simpler, more effective, and "can be run for over a hundred years on a single torch battery. This is because it relies on people's natural predisposition not to see anything they don't want to, weren't expecting, or can't explain".
I'm not telling here yet what original song I've used, giving you a twenty hour window to guess, though it shouldn't be too hard... ;)
Hmmmm... I think I got it ;c]. Which means I think there will be a song that ends up being done by both you and Blayde, which is perfectly fine with me since this particular song tends to yield very good parodies. YAAAAY H2G2 PARODIES!

I'm not sure when the deadline is, but I had an idea for a parody of "Can't Buy Me Love" called "The World's Gone Nuts" about the plight of Wonko the Sane. I'd like to do that one, particularly because it was referenced in an episode of Beast Wars (here, right at the end). Is that fine, or did I come into this too late?

You're not too late, TCOP. There's no 'official' deadline, and there're still 5-6 spots left. BRING IT ON! That's yet another gap in the parody pool: The man who lived OUTSIDE the asylum, and didn't even like to visit it. I'm looking forward to it :c].

Tomorrow's update will include an "I Feel Fine" parody for the Campaign for Real Time. Took a bit longer than expected, mainly because I started out doing something to "I am the Walrus" and couldn't get enough material to pad it out and stay worth it.

I guess I could do a parody about Humma Kavula, so that a) the number of parodies involving stuff Doouglas Adams made up for the movie is even, and b) the number of parodies I've done for this parody is even. The trick is finding a song to use...if you can find something before I do, that'd be awesome (I'm not as knowledgeable about Beatles songs as you guys).

I had another title idea two weeks back but still not enough time to run with it, "Paperwork Vogon" to "Paperback Writer". The original is a young man describing that he wants a job in the paperback business, so I'm thinking that maybe it could be written as a young Vogon describing that he wants a job in the Vogon bureaucracy, you know, the one described as:
"They wouldn't even lift a finger to save their own grandmothers from the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal without orders signed in triplicate, sent in, sent back, queried, lost, found, subjected to public inquiry, lost again, and finally buried in soft peat for three months and recycled as firelighters."
I don't se much about the Vogons in the list so far, so if anyone wants to run with this idea... just enjoy yourselves! ;)

Maybe the number of parodies that end up as part of this project will end up being a recipriversexclusion... which doesn't seem to scan well to anything (with the possible exception of "It's a recipriversexclusion" to the tune of "Why don't we do it in the road", but there's not too much you can do with that OS)
