Subject: Decathalon Round 3 (As suggested by Arwen)
Written By: Matthias on 08/20/09 at 10:55 pm
A couple of days late into the conversation, but YES...I'm totally in a slump, and also have ideas that I'm too lazy to finish. Or uninspired. Or something. I think about writing ALL the time. I WANT to write. I never finish anything. I need another Decathlon to get my writing again. ;) Of course I'm too lazy to host it...so... :-ALSO
Are there any genres you would like to see done? Any topics? Drop me a line below and let me know and I'll see if I can work your idea into this contest. I'm not only making the songs open to the topic for voting but the entire contest this time is open to the public. Let me know what you guys want and I'll make it happen!

I'm always game for something new. I'll have to look up the previous 2 decathlons to see what I'm signing myself up for though :)

I know I had problems with some of the genres...but that's part of the challenge. Obviously we can't include all of the previous genres...and there might be suggestions for new genres, as well...but I'd suggest just choosing from all them at random...and whatever gets chosen...gets chosen. Whatever is left out at the end of the Decathlon...is left out.

Hmm.... I'm not entirely sure what this is. I'll look up the other 2 before signing on. This is a prototype of my genre list:
Swing
50s Rock
Elvis
Beatles
Classic Rock
Rolling Stones
Lynyrd Skynyrd
80s Pop
80s Metal
Metallica
Power Ballad
Grunge/Ska
Nirvana
Modern Pop
Hip-Hop/Rap
Modern Rock/Emo/Metal
Lady GaGa
DragonForce (just kidding unless you really wanna them)

I actually might do take the easy route and combine all of the genres and topics and pick from a hat... ;)
Yeah, I'm lazy it happens....

I don't know about lazy...but I think that's the fairest way to do it anyway. I mean...if you're matching genres with topics, intentionally, you could be accused of having your ideas in mind beforehand, while the rest of us struggle to make sense of the crazy pairings. ;)

4. Medemia
5. DJ Blaze
6. Jeff Reuben
7. Conqueror of Parodies
8. 2nz
Anybody else? I hope we can get at least 10 people!

While I'm not adverse to choosing specific artists...(as we've done Elvis in the past)...I would say that we need to have someone with a more extensive music catalog than Lady GaGa. If I have to critique 12 parodies of "Love Game" at the same time, I might become clinically insane. ;)

I was thinking of adding "Disney" as a genre because they have a lot of music throughout their entire movie collection.

Death Metal might be a bit too extreme for this contest, Hair Metal on the other hand could be pretty fun.

I agree. I thought death metal would be cool, but this is mainly a 70s/80s site.
Just looked at one of the past threads and this sounds like an awesome idea! Not sure if I'll be able to do each genre, but I'm in for this one!

Why not just. . .Metal.. . which would include all variations of metal

Sounds good to me! I'll probably pick a power metal song for that round.

Any other people want to enter this?
I'm hoping for a large number of contestants... I'll give it a week from today if there still isn't a large number of people entering
I'll start it off with how many are already in

I think that people'll start entering on Monday and onward, because AmIRight/InThe00s seems to be slow on weekends. It may be because A.I.R. doesn't upload parodies on the weekends.

If someone else is doing the judging, count me in! If I have to judge, well, I don't know if I'll have time for that!
Category ideas that I like:
One-Hit Wonders
Instrumentals
Show Music/Musicals (same thing)
TV and Movie Themes
Folk and Traditional
Motown
British Invasion
Beatles (of course!)
Slow Songs/Ballads
History
Have a Rant
In the News 2009
Make Your Own Commercial
The Big Screen
Here are some ideas of mine:
Foreign songs
Opera
19th-century and before (which is almost the same as Traditional)
TV Shows
Literature (novels, plays, poems...)
Mythology and/or Religion
Specific Celebrities or Heroes (about a person)

I would like to have 3 more people entered before I start this event, but if nobody else wants to enter I can begin this contest with 7 people...

If it's only 7, I'd highly advise waiting Matthias, considering there are always a couple of mid-term drop outs, starting with 7 is pretty pointless, I'd say just hold out longer, there's no rush, we certainly have no shortage of contests ;)
