Subject: Halloween music - a request
Written By: philbo on 10/25/08 at 5:26 pm
Next Saturday, I'm supporting act at a Halloween-themed fancy-dress party at the Flint Cottage in High Wycombe. I've been asked if I could do some Halloween-themed songs - I was thinking of doing this one (a Smells Like Teen Spirit parody... not sure I'll have time to learn a new tune), and a slightly tweaked version of Nosferatu, but I'd like to do two or three more.
Has anyone got a Halloween song that they reckon will work as a performance number that they wouldn't mind me using?
Thanks :)
Phil

besides monster mash, purple people eater and King Tut? Not really unless you do rap? there are two songs about freddy kruger that come to mind.

I don't think I've written anything that would be a great fit but I'll try to come up with something.

If it isn't a parody you are looking for, may I suggest:
Witchy Woman by The Eagles
Devil Woman - Cliff Richard
Werewolves in London - Warren Zevon
Love Potion No. 9

I'm assuming this is in the parody forum for a reason

I've got a few lines left but the last few lines are often the hardest

Having re-read my initial post, I didn't really make it clear that yes, I am looking for a parody.. Thanks, Ethan :)

Thanks Matthias - I'll definitely give 1&3 a run through today & see if they'll come out OK... I'm not sure I want to try covering Boy George :)

I submitted something to amiright. OS is by same band as your nosferatu song and the general idea seems kind of obvious, but as far as I can tell nothing quite like it has been done before. It won't be on amiright until Monday. Should I post the lyrics here?

If you're going to record these I would like to hear them, because it would be awesome to hear a cover of my parody (Originally recorded by Dave or me)

Feel free to use any of the Halloween parodies on http://parodyman.com/. If you do, I'd love to hear a recording of it!

I think I may take you up on "I've just seen a ghost" - it's simple, obviously Halloweeny and best of all I know the OS well enough to play already :)
AFAIAA there are no plans to record this one: it's a "halloween party" fancy-dress party with live music... if there are enough people around to make it a decent party, I don't think the recording kit will last ten minutes. I'm doing three 20-minute-ish stints, and I reckon I'll do the first mainly the stuff I know will go down well; the second will be Halloween songs and the last one the singalong numbers (hoping people will be fairly well liquored up by then)
But I will let you know how it all goes

No chance... but the Purple Rain one's a killer (so to speak)

I'm not going to be able to, but I've asked one or two people whether they'd be willing to hold on to my camera & point it in the right direction. It's mainly a question of finding someone who'll stay sober enough to hold the thing steady.

you're welcome to take a stab at this one

And I concur, and audio or video of the event would be greatly appreciated.

So.... what did you pick? How did it go? Anyone sober enough to hold a camera steady? ;D

In some ways it went pretty well, thanks :) I was about as bad as I think I've been - it got a decent enough reception, but I'm not sure that I played a single song (out of a couple of dozen or so) without at least one cock-up. It got a bit embarrassing by the end of it.
Of the parodies suggested, I did Ethan's "Hotel Transylvania", and Rex's "I've just seen a ghost". Thanks very much, guys :)
There were a couple of cameras and one bit of sound recording kit, though I've no idea what got recorded at what sort of quality. I've always had a tendency to make mistakes when I'm being recorded, even for songs that I know perfectly the rest of the time. C'est la vie...
