Subject: My 2008 Parody Epic Resolution/Parodist Challenge
Written By: skittlesking on 12/31/07 at 11:41 pm
See the Epic Playlist!
I could try to lose weight
I could try to get a better job
I could stop popping my pimples
but. . .while I will try to do those things. . .my real goal since I have failed those three each multiple times (including 2007) My goal is to have the following 20 songs written before the end of 2008 (some already have been) AND at least half of them recorded. . .anyone who does a parody of one of these (written or recorded) please post it here, as I feel these songs are among the most difficult targets a parodist can truly choose. They are all here for different reasons, whether it's there length, their lyrics, or their tricky rhyme schemes--these 20 songs are all extremely difficult.
1. Destiny's Child "Lose My Breath" (High Powered Female Hip Hop Vocals, three different styles, Fast paced stanzas)
2. Kelly Rowland "Dilemma" (Duet with Nelly and Kelly contains 4:40 of R&B with supporting light Rap vocals)
3. Barenaked Ladies "One Week" (Fast fun rapid fire lyrics in a rock style with tricky rhymes)
4. R.E.M. "It's the End of the World as We Know It" (Over 4 minutes of rapid fire randomness with excessive choruses)
5. Gloria Gaynor "I Will Survive FULL VERSION " (Almost 8 minutes of repetitive disco power vocals)
6. Nastasha Bedingfield "Unwritten" (Poetic lyrics with a kicking bridge, nearly 4 minutes of Alternative Pop Madness)
7. Salt N Pepa "R U Ready" (Over 4 minutes of Powerful Female Hip Hop)
8. Meatloaf "I Would Do Anything for Love" (7:37 of emotionally charged rock duet lyrics)
9. Green Day "Jesus of Suburbia" (A 9 minute multi story complication in the classic Punk style they are known for)
10. Eminem "Stan" (Over 7 minutes of emotionally charged Rap with supporting soft pop vocals)
11. Busta Rhymes "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See" (Rap which uses wicked rhyming or "Rhymitis" as some of you call it)
12. Missy Elliot "Work It" (4:32 of crazy rap including backward vocals, and several languages)
13. Jason Mraz "Curbside Prophet" (Almost 5 minutes of insane rhymes, an epic Jazz/Blues song if there ever was one)
14. Avril Lavigne "Girlfriend" (Speedy Teen Skater Pop Power House song, with sneaky verses)
15. Linkin Park "In the End" (Rap-Rock with sentimental lyrics and rhymes)
16. Bloodhound Gang "The Bad Touch" (Part Rap, Part Punk, Part Rock, Part Monkey--oh and it's already funny)
17. Moulin Rouge Version of "Lady Marmalade" (4:30 Broadway Spectacular containing French and incorporating R&B, Rap, Pop, and Rock)
18. Led Zepplin "Stairway to Heaven" (8 minute rock opera with Celtic ties)
19. Sir Mix Alot "Baby Got Back" (Funny 80's Pop Hip Hop, sexuality at it's best)
20. Charlie Daniels Band "Devil Went Down to Georgia" (Speedy Folk Country song with a hint of Swing and deceivingly difficult lyrics)
**EDIT** I will maintain a list of who all completed each song below
1.
2.

This is a truly epic list... you really should have closed with a resounding "This... is... SPARTA!" for effect though.
If we've already done parodies of any of the above songs, would you like us to post them?

Like I said I shall conquer this list...
As I already have a few of these done.
#9: Rufus Was A TV Nut: http://www.amiright.com/parody/2000s/greenday359.shtml
#18: Airline To Dayton: http://www.amiright.com/parody/70s/ledzeppelin53.shtml
#19: Baby Can't Rap: http://www.amiright.com/parody/90s/sirmixalot17.shtml
&
#19: I Like Big Guts: http://www.amiright.com/parody/2000s/sirmixalot5.shtml (A newbie work, the above parody is the better of the two)
#20: The Devil Went On Vacation: http://www.amiright.com/parody/70s/charliedanielsband19.shtml
I have ideas for "It's The End Of The World As We Know It", and "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See"
I think the hardest song on here without question would be "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See" or "Work It"
The easiest song on here without question would be "Stairway To Heaven" (Which was actually a cakewalk for me to write, and recording this song should be simple as well, because it was one of the first I was considering.) Although "Unwritten" is a close 2nd.

If I work on one song at a time from your list, a song from Matthias 's list, and the rest of what I need to do for My Big7 that should keep me busy writing.

I've heard some of those, which do sound very difficult to say the least.

The only one I've done from that list is Meatloaf's I Would Do Anything For Love.
It's my really lame-ass "I Would Do Anything For Drugs"
http://www.amiright.com/parody/90s/meatloaf10.shtml
That's it. I haven't really done alot of 'epic' parodies yet.

Here ya go, Dave...
Human Evolution As We Know It (It Took Some Time)
In The End: Broken Toyz Remix
I'm still working on Baby Got Back; hope to have it completed soon
Some real beauties there, mate: I'm itching to tackle One Week, Stan, The Bad Touch and The Devil Went Down...so you've kinda inspired me to get on with it!

Have you listened to my "I Will Survive" parody on soundclick? Your saying "the full version" reminded me that I seemed to have done more verses than any of the karaoke backing I could find - I ended up having to stick two bits of the same recording together to make it long enough...
I've also done "The Devil Went Down To Georgia" a couple of times, and recorded them both - I have a fairly good karaoke backing for that if you need one; and a couple of Stairway parodies.
Other than that, it's unusual to see such a long list of songs where I've not done many :)
I've got no real plans for parodies this year... though the editor of my local newspaper has requested amusing topical stuff from readers (including parodies).. it'll be interesting to see if he uses any of mine. But as he's not offering to pay for contributions, he ain't getting many ;) But I'm not sure whether I'll submit them here, as they're a bit parochial.

The only song on this list that I've written a parody on so far is I've Been Everywhere, called "I Know My Weed".
<a href="http://www.amiright.com/parody/60s/hanksnow2.shtml">I Know My Weed</a>
I only know a handful of tunes on the rest of the list. I might try a couple of them or so. Always wanted to try TDWDTG.
