Subject: Another great place to pimp your recordings
Written By: Spaff.com on 09/13/07 at 11:09 pm
Amiright's Recordings section is THE place to post your recordings, of course, but more exposure is always better, so you performers need to take advantage of this too:
The FuMP (i.e., the Funny Music Project) has a new feature called the Sideshow where anyone can post comedy recordings. One new recording is featured each day; it's highlighted on the FuMP's homepage, then remains visible and accessible forever after in the Sideshow section.
Y'all DEFINITELY need to get over there and start submitting the best of your recorded material.
The FuMP home page: http://thefump.com/index.php
The FuMP Sideshow main page: http://thefump.com/sideshow.php
You're welcome.

FUMP sideshow rocks. It gets a lot of exposure and enables your tunes to be picked up for podcasts too. My only objection is since it's a free download rather than streaming, artists selling CDs and downloads have to consider the trade off between sales and giving away.
Soundclick and Garageband are good sites for peer feedback, but I don't know how many actual "buyers" venture over there. I was put off by Garageband's licensing agreement (something about the phrase, "we own the rights to everything you do here in perpetuity throughout the universe" bugged me) and elected not to participate, even though I thought my song ABOUT Garageband (the Apple software, not the site) might be a hit there.
Those of you trying to sell downloads might want to consider Tunecore. It costs money up front, but it gets your music on iTunes, Napster, Rhapsody and other sites where folks go to buy. I signed up, but it takes several weeks to make it happen. Meanwhile, I also created an account with Snocap which lets me sell from my web site or MySpace page. This year, I could have a two-figure income.

I think I might sign up and send 'Sunday Afternoon'. It's my highest so far on the charts at Soundclick ( pretty low over all, but I don't expect to reach the top) and it seems to have gotton a lot of hits at B.A.D.
Added: They say in the rules that (quote) Your song must use original or properly licensed music. Instrumental tracks you purchased or downloaded including karaoke tracks are not permitted unless such usage is specifically allowed by the author of the track, such as legally purchased, royalty-free samples or loops.
Does this mean I cant use a backing from a place like karokebar.com or is that ok?
Maybe it is time for me to take out my harmonica and play.

I'm kind of torn between writing a parody to "The Bump" by Kenny... or possibly a "Pimp Your Recordings" to AC/DCs "Shake your Foundations"... not sure I'd be able to sing either. Not without a painful operation first.
I've just submitted what is my most successful Soundclick recording (A-S-S-H-O-L-E) to the Fump... I was wondering, can you use soundclick's hosting by sticking in the mp3 download address in the Fump submission page?
In a similar vein, after Chucky's changes to the profile pages allowed a hit counter, I noticed that my author page was getting a surprisingly substantial number of hits (it's over 1k now). I changed the embedded soundclick player on the page to contain my favourite few songs and play automatically when the page loads... looking at the soundclick stats, it seems that this is giving a good half-dozen to a dozen plays per day for each song. Which is probably why the ASSHOLE recording has stayed in the top 20 for the last couple of weeks. :)

No, I tried that, I ended up using badave.com and hosting my parody there. . .I realize that's only for me but I might be able to work something out with some people who really want to use Fump

I can't seem to figure out how to link my songs to FuMP. I tried to link 3 different sites but, each time, I get an email back from them that it won't work.
Can anybody help me out here? I would really like to post some music there. There are more true parodies there than SoundClick; which has a lot of prank calls, instead of music.

I've posted a few of my songs on there already, and plan to post many more...
You gotta have the mp3 uploaded to a server, where you can link to the actual mp3. You can't link to soundclick or a website like that.

Yeah I was wondering about that too. Evidently it has to be on a server where deep-linking directly to the file is possible. What I did was to place the songs in my own personal website area. Technically, it shouldn't be possible because subscribers to my ISP (roadrunner cable) get a maximum of 5 MB for their personal files and storage. But, I've got enough junk in there to sink a battleship and it still seems to work.
