Subject: Revolting parodies

Written By: Jason on 04/19/07 at 11:27 am

Dear ChuckyG,

Should these parodies be accepted? They involve a fair amount of graphic swearing and rude language

I think these would belong on the other site that should be coming back soon.

I think perhaps there should be an Amiright ban on parodies with defecatory topics in addition to the sex ban. Though I can tell what the topic is just by the title and can ignore it--and far be it from me to be labeled a censorious prude-- I think some folks are taking this topic to a level that is just not acceptable for a PG-13 oriented web site.

Another fecal parody author. I don't care one way or the other. Just my opinion.

Guys, the second one doesn't use cuss words, while it may be a bit yucky, completely banning any and all toilet humor, that, I think, might go too far . . .I mean, we start saying ok, toilet humor goes to far, then anyone who makes a reference to toilet humor will get jumped on by those who lost parodies. . .it's not like sex parodies (which are akin to soft porn), they aren't banned on TV, so why on the site?  Though I do think these particular two are a little more disgusting than the usual toilet parody, but we can't ban things we find gross. . .I think it starts playing around with the line of favoritism and can spell legitimate freedom of speech complaints.

I don't care for eaither of these two parodies but banning them would be taking away from freedom of speech.

Is this person another Poopie Longstocking or Cacca Man or something of the like? ::) I was thinking that as I clicked on those paroides earlier today.

There is more of these by the same author:

http://www.amiright.com/parody/misc/francisscottkey10.shtml

http://www.amiright.com/parody/70s/tomjones12.shtml

http://www.amiright.com/parody/2000s/bowlingforsoup103.shtml

This is getting a bit too much. If one author is hammering the site with the same topic in numerous parodies, then something should be done about it.

Jason

(PS I am interested in ChuckyG's view on this)

A more direct route for Chucky to see this would be to make a post in the Amiright Web Site News & Discussion thread. I will cut/paste your last post over there. I have only read the Tom Jones one, and that one, I'm afraid, crosses a line that should only be tread at whatfreaks (should Chucky decide to reinstitute it).

Thanks for your diligence, Jason.

Well, a lot of poop parodies are nowhere near as revolting as some of the political parodies I've come across...and THOSE are allowed...

Just a thought.

He's got 9 of them up today.

The most parodies I ever submitted was 7 in one day, but that was when I first started coming here and most of them were already done way before I found the site.

The only way to banish scatalogical parodies from AmIRight is to totally ignore them - do not vote on them, do not comment on them, and do not post anything about them on the messageboards.

If everybody resolutely ignores them, their authors will no longer have the pleasure of getting a rise out of people, and they will quit posting them since posting them will have become a waste of their time and effort.

Every time you vote or comment or complain about scatalogical parodies, you allow their authors to manipulate you into giving them what they want - attention.

Don't be manipulated by the authors of scatalogical parodies.  Simply ignore them.

I find it a bit sad that so much effort is being put into attempting to yank poomaster's work off of the site, calls to effectively blacklist him being made, etc. It doesn't make Amiright look like a particularly friendly environment, ya know?

With titles such as "Diarrhea", "Release My Turd" and "Eat My Feces" (none of which I have read), what do people expect to find in the parody, sunshine and kittens? It's obvious what the topics are by the titles, and the fact the author's name is poomaster. That a few have gone out of their way to comment on nearly all his works that they know they'll hate, just to bitch, while ignoring some really bang-up parodies (see Rex's "All About Me" for example) is even more messed up to me.

If you don't like 'em, don't read 'em, but don't expect them to go away if you "boycott" them either.

BTW, I'm not really defending poomaster here, nor am I him: A) I couldn't write a TWOTEF parody (even a "sh*tty" one) if my life depended on it and B) I couldn't write a Major-General parody that paced and rhymed as badly as his did.

To each his own, or, in the case of poomaster, "to each a throne".

I had mixed views on your comment. Yes you are right as far as the titles and author's names are concerned, but I am sure there are those who inadvertently click on a parody without reading said names/titles. I did that once on a parody and was horrified to read what I came across. To reiterate what I said in another comment, I think bathroom parodies are okay in small amounts, but when one sole author starts bombarding the site with regurgitated nonsense then I feel that crosses the line as Agrimorfee puts it. Im sure you remember the author George Hamlinton IV who had all of his parodies taken down as a result of their offensive nature. Why should poomaster be treated any different?

Jason.

This *is* a friendly environment, but it should remain somewhat family-friendly. Grossness is fine, but Mr. Poo's "Eat My Feces" crosses into the realm of coprophagic pornography and has no place here.

Even the author "A Room Full Of Monkeys" has jumped on the 'poo' bandwagon now:

http://www.amiright.com/parody/misc/traditional1371.shtml

This is getting out of hand. It is systematically turning AmIRight into a poo fetish website.

Hamilinton wasn't banned because the parodies were offensive...they were incomplete.

Amiright has been through poo phases before. Stop drawing so much attention to it and it will pass

A "small amount" would be one gross parody maybe every 4-6 months, yes? Like a short, stupid parody to a traditional song everyone knows? Like this one?:

It's getting out of hand because "one" author, who hasn't posted a parody of any type in over 4 months, wrote a "crappy" song? Funny that you don't know "A Room Full of Monkeys" is a name authors use for posting things they don't want under their name, and what's even funnier is that it's no secret who wrote it.

That parody was posted to demonstrate several points. I'll let you take a stab at those before I say what they are.

Im sure you remember the author George Hamlinton IV who had all of his parodies taken down as a result of their offensive nature. Why should poomaster be treated any different?

Of course I remember George Hamilinton IV
, and why his parodies were removed from the site; clearly you do not. I'll quote myself from the comments: "... the fact that parodies were incomplete is why they got deleted."

"coprophagic pornography" is an interesting term because any time crap is involved it's not remotely sexual to me (that's one of the few fetishes I've never understood at all). But I see your point, and I read "Eat My Feces". Ugh. Well beyond what I consider funny in the genre, but I didn't see anything sexual mentioned in that work. Eating a turd is not a sex act any more than eating a banana is.

It's times like this I'm glad I skip breakfast...

I shouldn't be bitching so much I guess...after all, I wrote a S&M-themed parody where the singer dares someone to beat him, whip him and lick up his snot. But that snot line was one line, as opposed to a nauseatingly graphic set of verses laced with profane words.

Who's to say, right to free speech and all? Eat My Feces was still online last I looked.
