Subject: Where can I find good-quality backing tracks?
Written By: Cat on 01/13/07 at 2:06 pm
My parents got this nice microphone for Christmas, and I was thinking that I could use it with Garage Band on my computer to record some of my parodies. Thing is, where can I get some good-quality karaoke backing tracks that aren't MIDIs? I'd really prefer not to pay for them, thanks.

Cat, sorry, can't help you with 'not midis' however I can alter midis. . .I can soften annoying sounds and remove vocal lines. . .I've been re-doing my songs, and some of them are quite good. I host them at Soundclick, and you can tell the difference. . . http://www.soundclick.com/belowaveragedave Check out either Casino Queen or Every Call I Make, they sound a lot like the original, and many of my others either sound very close or nearly identical to the original. . .I'd be willing to help as long as you remember me for no cost, no credit, just friendship points:)

eBay... Although you'll have to buy them which sucks. Just look for karaoke CD's and stuff. Unfortunately, most the songs I parodise aren't very popular... So I can never find them. Oooh, you can also try like... Limewire or something, I found a great backing to She's Always A Woman - Billy Joel, and Hey Jude, and several others. Or if worse comes to worse... do what I'm planning to do... get a friend who can play many a instrument, and get them to record all the music, while you record the singing, shove em together in a blender and put it on frappe. Muah, beautiful

If you want to do a parody of "American Idiot", "Trapped In The Closet", "Confessions Part II", "Ridin'", OR "Do I make you proud". You can use Straight Outta Lynwood.

Karaokee CDs are copyrighted and restricted just like the originals, that's why I don't use them, they also usually contain supporting vocals of secondary parts which contain original lyrics, creating further dilemas.

Yeah, that's true, when I was trying to record Nerdy Needs with my old mic, it had the "Done Dirt Cheap" already in there, and I had to edit it alot to get rid of it. And then I lost the file somehow... stupid losingness... but you can pay and download karaoke backings from the net... I found a site once, I got "The Longest Time" which I was gonna sing to my girlfriend at this big karaoke thing at the church... then she didn't come so I just tried to sing Attack Of The Radio-Active Hamsters From A Planet Near Mars... But that's a different story, I'll try look for that website again, but it means you need money... Stupid money

LOL-Money-stupid money, yep. . .backing tracks that aren't altered midis or altered karaoke do cost. . .and if they are good they usually aren't too cheap either. . .been that route, maybe if I was trying to make money I'd go that route, that's why I stick to the free options, because I do it strictly for fun. . .

Altered karaoke's fine as long as I can hear the melody line well. Where can I find such things?
