Subject: Hardest parody that you've ever written

What was the most difficult song that you ever covered? Were there any that you started and gave up on because it was just too hard to write? http://www.inthe00s.com/smile/11/cussing.gif

The hardest parody I've ever written, completed, and posted was Prove Yourself. I put roughly 90 hours of time into that one.
I've put double-digit hours into numerous other works, but nothing came close to that one.
I've never given up on an OS entirely, though I do have some half-finished parodies that are over a year old, and probably will not be completed at this point.

I never actually have had a horrible time writing any of the parodies I've submitted, even the ones to some really killer OSes like MMG and Gangsta's Paradise.
I guess my two hardest parodies that I've done are "Things That Provoke My Ire" to We Didn't Start The Fire, and "A Parodist's Dilemma" to American Pie, which was especially apt considering its subject matter.
One time I tried to parody Bob Dylan's Stuck Inside Of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again but I just gave up. Not as much for finding ideas and subs, but I was shooting total blanks when it came to humor.

Crazy for Chips (Crazy in Love by Beyonce)
Any song featuring the queen of attention is difficult, but this one the whole Jay-Z thing added a whole new element. . .although soon I will be doing a few that top Crazy for Chips, thus far Beyonce is my toughest parody with Crazy in Love. . .
Also, believe it or not, Celebration by Kool & The Gang which became Yahoo!, was very difficult, any song with repetitive and limited lines is hard because writing a good parody with limited lines to alter is more challenging that doing a parody of a typical length song without sounding repetitive or boring.

Mine would have to be 21 Things Girls Love 'Bout The Charnstar... I mean seriously... Alanis Morissette sings so crazy like in that song. Either that or I Love The Boogie-Man... Cause the lyrics I had were incorrect and the song is sung wierd like

Whoa,BTW did they have more hits in Australia? Cause all we got was Mmm Mmm Mmm.
But those ARE weird song titles "How Does a Duck Know?"
If onlywhatfreaks was around and I knew that song I could come up with a really dirty parody for that,
And Coffeespoons and Afternoons? Hmm LOL

Mmm Mmm Mmm is the only song most people know, I just happened to buy their album: God Shuffled His Feet. It was the album that had Mmmm Mmm Mmm on it. They"ve had many other albums, oh and one other HUGE song they had was The Ballad Of Peter Pumpkinhead. It was on Dumb And Dumber. It was my favourite song of theirs for a while

Although some may say it"s not Crash Test Dummies cause Ellen Ried is singing and shes never the singer. Shes usually just known as the backup singer for some songs

Yeah. I think that the cover of XTC's Peter Pumkinhead was the only CTD song that she sang lead on. Most have Brad Roberts on the LV's. They are a Canadian group, out of Winnepeg. More of an alternative easy listening feel to most of their music. Another alternative band from back then to keep an eye out for is The Cowboy Junkies. They had a wicked version of the old Lou Reed song Sweet Jane.

That was a cover?

Yup. From the XTC album Nonsuch released in 1992. Usually XTC's music is kinda weird, but when I first heard The Ballad Of Peter Pumpkinhead, I loved it. Then I heard the CTD song a couple of years later, kinda soon for a cover I thought, but it sounded great too. At the beginning of XTC's version, it sounds like someone drops an electric guitar onto the floor right before the opening guitar riff kicks in. I told ya they were kinda weird. They are from England.

A lot of my parodies tend to write themselves pretty well.
But a few don't... for me, it's either "Wonka's Door" (http://www.soundclick.com/bands/songInfo.cfm?bandID=341421&songID=4160580) or "We Didn't Watch the Trailer" (http://www.soundclick.com/bands/songInfo.cfm?bandID=341421&songID=4283129).
Right now I'm also writing a parody of System of a Down's "BYOB" and it's not easy to do either. And recording it will be even harder!

Probably "Throw Up" to the tune of Hilary Duff's "Wake Up".

That one's hard. It took me years, but much more off than on. My parody of that is certainly up there as one of the hardest, and certainly one of the most time-consuming efforts.

I wouldn't even consider listing the hardest parodies we've ever written, 'cus they are also the crappiest ones! All the really good ones come easy.... ::)

That's really how it should be. You know you have a good idea when the parody basically writes itself, and you're confident while writing it.
