Subject: Undone Songs
Written By: Matthias on 01/06/07 at 8:35 pm
There's has to be at lot of undone songs that have yet to be parodied out there, but people can't just think of a good idea to complete them with
I just recently did "Uneasy Rider" by Charlie Daniel's Band that has not yet been done yet, although a popular song
There are other songs out there that haven't been done yet
Such as "Sugarpie Honeybunch", by The 4-Tops, and "Rock This Town" (which I'm claiming, by the way), by the Stray Cats
Can you guys think of anymore?

Most Adam And The Ant songs, I was the first who did Civil War - Guns n Roses. Umm... I think I was also the first person who did Sometimes It's A Bitch - Stevie Nicks.. I gotta check that... Yup, I'm the only one. What else is there? Umm... Every Crash Test Dummies' song besides Mmm Mmm Mmm. The only other one done was "The Ghost's That Haunt Me"... And I did that... And it sucked... LOL!... Oh wait, someone did Afternoons and Coffeespoons, I LOVE THAT SONG... Hmm... It seems most bands I listen to haven't been done. Rob Zombie has been done, but hardly. Only two people have ever done Hey Tonight - Creedence Clearwater Revival... And... they're the same song... Eeep, I didn't know Frullet submitted it as well. Moh well. Well, that's enough from me, over to the others

Uneasy Rider was done once before yours, Matthias.
Alvin's done Sugar Pie Honey Bunch.
There's an near infinite number of songs yet to be parodied, many of which got massive airplay or sold like crazy.
Last time I counted, ~50 of my parodies were first submissions of that song. The problem with parodying those? In a nutshell, major DKTOS.
Most Led Zeppelin songs are still virgin territory for parodists. Same goes with many first-generation grunge bands (with the exception of Nirvana). Even with numerous AiC songs I've done, well over half of their catalog remains "yet parodied".
Smashing Pumpkins "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness" is the best selling double-album ever (even besting Pink Floyd's "The Wall"), yet there are only 16 SP parodies on the site, most of which aren't from MCatIS.
Wilson Phillips' debut CD sold over 10 million copies, but there is only one WP parody on the site (I have it ;D).
Most of Guns N' Roses Use Your Illusion 1 & 2 remain unparodied, even though they sold half a million copies within two hours of going on sale (final figures estimated at 30 million).
There's plenty of Metallica parodies on the site, yet only 8 Megadeth. Alternative and metal are goldmines... if you can get past the ever-present DKTOS demon.

I did a parody of platinum "I Love You Always Forever" by Donna Lewis, to my surprise it was it's first submission. . .no one had ever done a Donna Lewis Parody before me on this site--that means that there are a lot of parodies not done on the pop end of the spectrum too. . .that song was a billboard top 40 for several months. . .

Which is one of my favorite genres.

Nobody has dared to parody Van Halen's "Eruption" that I know of... But then again, that song is about as hard to perform as it is to parody. This 1978 track is a very famous guitar solo -- the very guitar solo that ushered in the shred movement of the 1980s. I've thought about parodying the song, but it seems way too hard.
Also, I was the first person to ever do a Motorhead parody on here, "Gatorade." I'm sure there are plenty of other bands/artists/songs which are uncharted territory.

A lot of songs haven't been parodies simply because they were never popular enough for a parody of the song to appeal to a substantial audience. The real issue is, in my opinion, what are some songs that a lot of people should know yet nobody has made a parody of? I don't have any answers yet..it would take considerable research to compile a list.

Tomorrow you will see a parody of "Eruption". Needless to say, lyrics sheets don't help much. ;) (neither does tablature for that matter).
A long time ago I wanted to do "316", but that is impossible.

Chris Bodily, I still don't understand how adding lyrics to a song that has no lyrics can be called a parody.
There probably should be more esoteric, lyric-heavy songsters that could be parodied more often...especially proggy rockers like ELP or Jethro Tull...or introspective songwriters like Bright Eyes or M. Ward (not faves of mine, but just sayin'). Dave Matthews doesn't get lampooned enough, and he should be. :D
I would like to see opera or Broadway tunes (besides My Favorite Things), too.
My penchant for doing songs that no one else has is waning as of late. Running low on ideas I guess.

Instead of parodying words, you are parodying notes. In this case bit of satire and self-deprecation make it a parody.

Other genres that haven't been done that often are Insturmentals, Ska, and Techno... So a lot of that is also open game

Instrumentals. . .Wow, that would be a VERY hard parody. . .ditto Techno, I guess Ska I can see being done--just not my first choice, but the thought of trying to put lyrics to a song that doesn't have one AND have it judged on pacing? Oy Vey. Techno--usually limited to a few repeat words, I love techno and instrumentals myself, but never have parodied one because I feel if there aren't at least 20 or so unique sentences in a song, that it wouldn't make a good parody, wether or not it can be done. . .there's a challenge though if anyone is looking for one.

I just finished an undone song today. "Some Guys Have All The Luck" by Rod Stewart to the parody "Some Guys Don't Give A F*ck", about an extreamly lazy husband who barely moves and his wife is getting fed up with his laziness

Right now I'm working not only on the first song done by an artist, but the first artist in general. I'm doing a parody of "Through Fire And Flames" as made famous by "Dragonforce"

Yeah its also hard to find Styx songs taht dont start the same. Styx rules, but man all their songs sound alike
Better than Journey, though. I get the two bands confused
That's why I plan my "Not Another Styx Song" parody, a medley of parodies to a bunch of Styz songs

A band that has a crapload of undone songs is Meatloaf, which is one of my favorite bands. However, a lot of his undone songs are very unheard of, and reallllllllllly hard to rewrite.
But there is more to Meatloaf than his usual "Bat Out Of Hell", "I Would Do Anything For Love", "Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad", "Paradise By The Dashboard Lights", and "Life Is A Lemon".
Though very people know, "Heaven Can Wait", "Objects In The Rear View Mirror", "All Revved Up", and a few others...

I've never heard "Life Is A Lemon" before, but all the other songs you mentioned I LOVE!... except Objects In The Rear View Mirror... that song is annoying. I guess someone can do "Devon Can't Wait"... but I don't really like devon that much...

I know we have a spitload of contests already, but this would be a good idea for a future one. Say make the qualification for entry as the FIRST parody of an artist that had not been ever parodied at amiright.com! This can easily be proven by the Artist search function. It would be a great inspiration motivator.
If someone wants to host this contest, be my guest.

It would have to be an established artist, right? As opposed to a parody of a song that your Uncle John's garage band performed a few times back in the 60's.

Yes, absolutely...one could have to back up a disputed case with proof that the artist involved is fairly world-renowned in fairness to all concerned. (this would also apply additionally to TV and movie themes, classical music and show tunes)

I could easily do half the bands I listen to... I would do Crash Test Dummies but everyone's only done one of their songs.. and Afternoons and Coffeespoons... No-one does all the other great songs like Overachievers and stuff... Love it
