Subject: Allan Sherman - My son, the box

Written By: tmayfield on 10/25/06 at 10:17 pm

Christmas came a little early this year!  ;D

Six CD's packed with Allan Sherman parodies. Ah, I think I'll be calling in sick for a week or so.  ;)

And now that you're on the right road,
Don't forget (the) Area Code.
Which is 5 1 8 2 4 7 9
Zero-5 hyphen dash 9 4.

Ah, I ran across this song today, "The Let's All Call Up AT&T & Protest to the President March".  It was pretty good.

Let us wake him up in his slumber
Get a pencil I'll give you his number
  It's 3 1 8 5 2 7 3 0 8 7 4 2 9 dash 5 1 plus 4 9 0 6 7 4 0 8 8 5 2 hyphen 1 1 4 6 2 0 5 7 9 hyphen dash 0 3
And now that you're on the right road
  Don't forget his area code
  Which is 5 1 8 2 4 7 9 0 5 hyphen dash 9 4

I think right now my favorite is "Makin' Coffee".

  One button says with sugar
  One button says with cream
  Then there's a mystery button
It splashes your suit with steam
And...
  Machines have downs
  Machines have ups
  Next day one dime paid
  For eighteen cups
  I just kept drinking
  I stood there thinking
  That's too much coffee
  And that's not all
  That seemed so strange
It also gave me $9 change
  I said that's funny
  That's too much money
It said shut up and drink your coffee
Or I'll give you more steam
It can make more than coffee
It makes hot soup and tea
And if it really likes you
  A mixture of all three
;D

Applause for enjoying it.  All-digit dialing was something I grew up with.  As soon as my parents explained the song to me, I burst out laughing, because I'd always wondered why the phone exchanges in my town had the numbers they had.

Umm, I mean, no sirree, when I was a kid, I had no interest in the phone system, no sirree, not at all.  Nope, nope, nope.  I was straight as an arrow, definitely not a phreak.
