Subject: Where's (Ralph) Waldo?

Written By: Johnny_D on 08/12/06 at 2:14 am

Yesterday, we had an awesomely beautiful day here in New England ... cool, sunny, low humidity, gentle breezes ... and my older brother sent me an email with the following quote to celebrate the beauty of the day:

"Standing on the bare ground,--my head bathed by the blithe air, and uplifted into infinite space,--all mean egotism vanishes. I become a transparent eye-ball. I am nothing. I see all. The currents of the Universal Being circulate through me; I am part or parcel of God"

- Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nature (1836)

I replied to my brother, saying that I agreed with the sentiments expressed by Ralph Waldo ...

... and then, of course, not wanting to let such a perfect day go unsullied by silliness ...

... I sent my brother my parody of Ralph Waldo's transcendental verse:

"Standing on the bear's ground,--my hair raised by its blithe stare, and uplifted into horripular space,--all clean Speedo-ism vanishes. I become a brown-panted cry-bawl. I am running. I flee all.  The fur scent of the Hungry Ursine Being percolates new pee; I have farted shrapnel on sod."

- Johnny D, Naturally (2006)  ;D
