Subject: I have to ask, do you mind?

Written By: K1chyd on 02/09/06 at 10:29 am

This is for a parody I'm working on: Is it OK to use the word "mind" like here below, or does it make the line too abstract?

If I only had mind
(I'd make up a better rhyme)

My alternative seems to be "If I were out of mind" but I'd prefer the first alternativ since it's closer to the line in TOS.

If not in my right mind

If I'm in my right mind

If I'd not lost my mind

If I had lost my mind

OK, so there are other alternatives, how about the correctness of the one I want to go with if possible (TOS has "If I only had time" so "If I only had mind" is the near perfect alteration).

I reckon it makes enough sense. I at least think I know what you're trying to say.

I'd say it's not quite there: to say I've mind/am minded to do something is rather like saying "I want to do it", so the "only" is a bit out of place.

"If I only had mind"
..is a bit like saying "if only I wanted to do it..." which is a bit like wishing one had the desire to do something.  Which is a bit odd.

"If I made up my mind" kind of fits

I think you've nailed my problem here Phil!

What I wan't to say is "if I wasn't so stupid" but I couldn't pin down what was wrong with "If I only had mind", maybe because it's so similiar to "If I only had brains" which (unless I'm mistaken there too) does mean approx "If I were smarter".

Thanx! // Peter
