Subject: We need a group of people to welcome new parody authors on amiright
Written By: ChuckyG on 06/28/05 at 3:21 pm
I know there's several people reading parodies everyday, that aren't too busy to read stuff by new authors. I think it would really go a long way to helping encourage new authors to keep submitting to the site, if a couple people got together to make sure new authors receive comments on their first few submissions to the site.
I'm not saying they have to be nice, but constructive criticism for the new submittors. Maybe let them know what you did like, followed by how they can improve, etc.

I agree that it could make all the difference in the world as to whether or not someone keeps submitting. I know that if Johnny D and Merry hadn't commented so kindly on "Frodo," I probably wouldn't have come back.
While I, (like most people, I'm sure) have my favorite authors that I always try to follow, I do my best to read those submissions that parody original songs that I know and/or like...regardless of who wrote them. Anymore, though, there are a lot of days anymore that I can't spend as much time on the site as I would like. I would be happy to make an extra effort to seek out new writers with the time that I have...(if nothing else, I'd accrue a bunch more adoring fans... ;))

I'm on like 5 days out of 7 most weeks and if I know the song well I usually check out the parody even if it's posted by a noob.
Don't know about being in an organized group though, with new writers (or at least new aliases) to check out almost every day it would be a whole lotta downloading on DKTOSs to be able to welcome them all, I do not have THAT much time unless I'm to stop writing parodies myself or drop out of the SOTMs.
How about using a different sorting order than original's titles in reversed order on the front page list of new submissions? Maybe let new authors with less than ten parodies come first so they get to see their name high and get that lite extra tad of exposure?

hence the reason I'm thinking it should be a group. not so much that everyone in the group would read each newbie's submissions, but maybe instead comment if they see no one else has commented yet. If five or six people checked out just the original songs they knew by newbies, there should be enough variation in musical backgrounds to cover them all I would think.

That might not be easily handled, but it might be easier to check if an author appears in the author list yet, and if not change the color of the link.

Well, I try to read every parody every day now. The bad thing for me ( and newer people ) is my limited musical knowledge. When I first arrived here I DKTOS on only about 50% of the parodies. That number has grown as high as 85%+ on a few days as of late. Today I knew only 5 OSs aside from the one I submitted.
I wouldn't mind helping in this. I know there are countless people who helped me to write better than I did 4 months ago by commenting on my parodies.
