it's time to vote on your favorite parody starting with "a" out of the choices given. so here are the choices:

#1: http://www.amiright.com/parody/2000s/coldplay17.shtml

#2: http://www.amiright.com/parody/90s/barenakedladies19.shtml

#3: http://www.amiright.com/parody/80s/reospeedwagon3.shtml

#22: http://www.amiright.com/parody/2000s/countingcrowsfvanessacarlton0.shtml

#23: http://www.amiright.com/parody/70s/shockingblue3.shtml

So that was a lot... anyway read them all and if there's one you like but don't know the original then please learn the original for the sake of the contest... and after you're done with that make a post within this thread with the number and title of your choice. The winning song moves on to the final round which will be in about 6 months (there's some incentive to stay on amiright) and everyone is allowed a maximum of 2 winning entries so the winner can enter next week too if he or she wants to. Good luck.

Well, I spent the afternoon going thru each parody. (I left comments on all the ones I had not previously seen). I had it narrowed down to four, but I am gonna have to go with #22: Spaff's "Ain't Paris Nice?" :D

This is tough!  I kept reading and rereading two parodies that I had it narrowed down to. I'm going  with Johnny D's "A Lamer, Stupid Rhyme" - #9.

I was thinking of leaving him out of this round completely but i changed my mind and i'll enter his song with the late penalty of not being considered by the first 2 voters:

You may have said it somewhere, but when does the "A" voting end?

Subject: Re: abcs of parodies round

Written By: Meriadoc on 04/04/04 at 09:11 p.m.

A ends where B begins.... ;)

No, seriously, I think we have thru Thursday at least as submissions close for "B" on Friday...

Ethan?

P.S. Did anyone alert Guy that he did get included in this round after all? He may not know, and I would hate to see him disqualified because he doesn't vote... ???

Thank you very much for the vote, Charlie D.  Did you enter the competition under another name?  Ethan was fairly specific that only parody writers who are entered can vote (and I think it's a good rule).

"Since the top ten lists are being eliminated here's an idea to help fill the void... The ABCs of parody tournament. The first week everyone who enters picks a parody they wrote where the parody title starts with "A"... if you don't have any you can write one or wait until another week. Everyone who has submitted a parody during the tournament is eligible to vote and voting for your own song is not allowed "

So, while your vote is very, very important to my ego, unless you submitted a parody, it won't count for the letter A winner.

Oh, I did not know that. I guess that's why I should read all the rules. Oh well, great parody anyway.

Tough choice.  I think Phil Alexander might have blown away his competition if he had entered "Another Bastard Spammer," but I've got to go with #5 - Claude Prez and "Alzheimer Rock and Roll."  Very well done, Claude.

Subject: Re: abcs of parodies round

I went over all the songs and narrowed it down to about half and then to about half again and then finally down to these five.  I will list them by number in the order of favorite to least favorite.  Number one being the choice I want my vote to count for.  It was a tough choice and out of the 23 submitted here are the 5 I like best:

1.  18 "All My Hexes Wiped Out Texas" Michael McVey

2.  05 "Alzheimer Rock And Roll"  Claude Prez

3.  04 "Ahhh, Je t'adore (Shut the door?)" Adagio

4.  15 "Arthur Andersen"  John Jenkins

5.  09 "A Lamer Stupid Rhyme" Johnny D

And thanks Ethan for letting me into the competition late.  It's just fun to have something new to do on the board.  I wish everyone the best of luck and above all - everyone have fun with this.

My vote has to go to 19: Another Hobbit's Tale (Part 2): We are the Fellows.

If I may be so bold as to state my second and third even though they don't count, because there were three I was deciding between:
2. 13: A Techie's Lot
3. 10: A House with No Drains

Finally started my voting process but not done yet.  I just went through and voted and commented on all the ones I know the original of (unless I'd already commented on it, but I still read it again).  I plan to finish Friday but I doubt I'll be downloading the originals unless someone wants to make it easy for me.  Good stuff so far.

Oops - I put up the original for the other contest, but forgot to do it for this one. I always try to loan out the originals to people in contests, given that I have pretty much unlimited server space. Anyway: http://www3.hmc.edu/~afield/Barenaked_Ladies_-_Who_Needs_Sleep.mp3

*Long Sigh* Hmmm... but someone's got to "Win" now, huh?

#6: Andy, Your a Fine Cop         by Paul Robinson

2nd: #10: Across-tic Universe    by Rick Duncan

Mentions:

#16: At the Potluck                  by Jan Unwin
For teaching me a new word and overall 'Potlucky-ness'

#22: Ain't Paris Nice                 by Spaff.com

Wow, there are a whole lotta great ones in this batch. And I'm not just saying that - it took me days to go through them and I'm exhausted but very impressed. It's hard to narrow it down to ONE, but since I have to, I'll go with Claude's "Alzheimer Rock and Roll," long one of my site favorites.

Now, on to the SOTM entries. And then the "B" songs. Anybody got some hours I can borrow?

Very tough to choose.  I'm going with #13, "A Techie's Lot" by Phil Alexander.

I'd do honorable mentions but there were so many it would be easier to do dishonorable mentions.  And that would be wrong.

Subject: Re: abcs of parodies round "A" voting

voting is closed... there will be no penalties this round for not voting since i never made a policy about it but i'll figure something out eventually so people don't get lazy... anyway now i'll tally the votes:

22: xxx
9: x
19: xx
5: xxxxxxx
15: xxx
11: x
18: x
6: x
13: x

So it's claude Prez in a blowout victory... "Alzheimer rock and roll" qualifies for the finals in a very long time  and is allowed 1 more winning entry and everyone else still has 2 chances

Thanks for playing... good luck in round B

Congratulations, Claude!  There were many good parodies (actually all 23 of them from my perspective), but your victory was very well deserved.  I would like to thank other voters for the consideration that was given to my parody and I would like to thank Ethan for initiating this friendly competition.

OK, just come back from holiday...

Well done Claude: another truly chuckleworthy entry.. not that it would have made any difference to the result, but I'd probably have cast my vote for JJ's "Arthur Andersen" (while sneakily pointing out one of my lesser-known G&S parodies Andersen Consulting which could have been entered here, I guess)

Phil
