Subject: Re: March Song Of The Month Contest
Tried to make it as simple as possible; it's designed to be a more or less "permanent" contest but we'll see how it goes.
Here's my entry:
http://www.amiright.com/parody/70s/neildiamond46.shtml
Something tells me I won't have to disqualify myself this time (not that I would anyway)
Modified to add that I don't know where this bold type is coming from.
Subject: Re: March Song Of The Month Contest
I also meant to mention that I considered the suggestion to allow songs from other months in the first contest to encourage more participation but decided it will sink or swim on its own merits. I think it's a good idea that will catch on but if it doesn't, that's how it goes.

I will enter:

Thank you for getting this started, Claude. I would like to suggest one more rule:
Voters cannot vote for their own parodies. Ethan is using that rule in the abc competition and I think it would be useful in this contest as well.
Subject: Re: March Song Of The Month Contest
After thinking about it, I am changing my parody to this one because the more feedback I can get on it the better. This one I would really like to record at some point.

Special thanks to Guy, Jared and anyone else who already checked out and commented on my first submission. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Subject: Re: March Song Of The Month Contest
Almost forgot we had this contest going on too!! OK, so here's my March entry (I changed my mind twice already, think I'll stick with this one):

I have no problem with this. I didn't vote for my own in the last competition. I think this is a good idea.

Hang my chad in the "YES" column on the proposed rule against voting for our own entries.
Subject: Re: March Song Of The Month Contest
And adding to that, Mari and I will not vote for each other, either.

I actually meant to address this originally but forgot. My intention was to avoid any further executive decisions but some adjustments are clearly going to be necessary, at least this first month. Since it seems likely to pass I'm just going to go ahead and make it the default position. If anyone wants to change it to allow people to vote on their own, they'll have to propose it and it'll just be rejected anyway.
As far as Rick and Mari, it's up to them but I don't think it should be a rule or anything that you can't vote for your spouse.
Thanks John
Subject: Re: March Song Of The Month Contest
The inability to vote for myself may permanently wound my fragile ego, but you gotta count me in on anything proposed by C4P. I have to enter "Uranus!" - my only monkey-free submission in March.

Claude, Yup! an easy motion to 2nd. Agreed. I much prefer not having to try and measure mine against others. Have not the foot-speed anymore to keep up with mad dashes between hubris and humility.

I also would go for not voting for oneself in the contest.

As Merry and I write as one, neither of us shall vote for any M&P songs :)

Entries are accepted until the 8th of the month, when voting begins. Some people are getting a jump on reading and commenting now, but contest voting won't start until entries close.

Same here, because then just about everyone would be limited to two votes among all the other parodies.
I think it's a good rule.

I'm thinking I should withdraw here since I don't have any way at the moment to do sound on my PC. I don't know how many entries have posted sound files here for this round and which songs I might know anyway of those. I wasn't planning on using the sound on this computer anyway, but I see for these contests it's really a "must". I guess I'll look those over in the morning and see if there is any way that I can be fair here. If not, I'll pull out. Thanks.

No, you really don't: nobody did for the other contest... I grabbed them all off my school's intranet.
Subject: Re: March Song Of The Month Contest
neminem, I just looked at the entries and I know almost all of the originals here, anyway. The couple I don't I can listen to at Barnes and Noble's music section not too far from here (If I don't get my sound working before then). That won't be that big a deal to do. Thanks for your note. Paul

Oh, oops. I misread your comment, I was thinking you were withdrawing because other people had sound clips up, rather than because you wouldn't have been able to listen to the ones that were up. *bangs head on desk*
Subject: Re: March Song Of The Month Contest
nem - Ah...NOW your note makes better sense to me...I was trying to figure out how that would help me but since I had already determined I could struggle through this since there were just a couple that would be a bit of a problem I didn't dwell upon it too much. Thanks for the clarification.
