Subject: Final Showdown Voting Thread--All Should Vote
5 Rick Duncan (4.60) Sweat: Sistine Ceiling
vs.
6 Earl S. Garber (4.45) Nerd City
lyrics
When I say "All Should Vote", I mean everyone in both brackets of the contest. There were 30 to begin with; I'd be happy with like 20 by now. I leave for vacation Sunday morning so sometime Saturday night I plan to declare whoever is ahead the winner. One more time thank you to everyone who's been voting, especially promptly. This has been great.
Subject: Re: Final Showdown Voting Thread--All Should Vote
Claude, well this will be a "first" for me...being the first instead of one of the last to get my Bracket vote in. With no further ado the Great State of Schizophrenia casts all it's votes for:
#5 - "Sweat: Sistine Ceiling", by one of the hardest-working parody writer's in the business, Rick Duncan...
And Claude, thanks once again for ram-rodding all us little parody dogies thru the voting process. Thanks to all the other participants for sharing their time, work, votes and comments. Like the Masochist said when he didn't win the "Most Submissive" Award at the S&M Convention. "It was an honor just to be Dominated."
Subject: Re: Final Showdown Voting Thread--All Should Vote
Both parodies have been examined carefully.
I liked Earl's Nerd City. His was very imaginative and funny!
Rick's is more original in topic, and a much more difficult song
to parody. Very creative and imaginative and humorous!
A work of art!
5- Sweat: Sistine Chapel

Vote: 5 Rick Duncan Sweat: Sistine Ceiling
Congratulations Rick! "Sweat: Sistine Ceiling" is an extraordinary work of art.
Johnny D :) ;) :D ;D ;D
P.S. And I'd like to echo Paul Robinson's words of thanks to Claude Prez for making this Tournament happen - well done, Claude - thank you very, very much! ;D
Subject: Re: Final Showdown Voting Thread--All Should Vote
I love Rick's work, but when "Sweat" is placed next to Earl's "Nerd City"--for sheer hilarity (which is my really first and foremost in my priorities for Parody), my vote goes to Nerd City!
Subject: Re: Final Showdown Voting Thread--All Should Vote
My vote goes to Sweat Sistine Ceiling for sheer inventiveness

Subject: Re: Final Showdown Voting Thread--All Should Vote
First of all, thank you very much, Claude, for setting up this tournament - it has been fun!
Each of these parodies could win, but I will go with #5. "Sweat:Sistine Ceiling"
Subject: Re: Final Showdown Voting Thread--All Should Vote
it's amazing... it was a tough decision to vote for Nerd City in the first round and now its the showdown between 2 brackets and i'm voting for it

Since I already feel like some enormous internet God is going to jump in to say I'm in the wrong parallel universe and all this didn't exist in my world, I'm going to risk further Karmic wrath and vote for me. (How's that for mixed metaphor? One of my lyrical trademarks!) By the way Earl, it's too bad you didn't authorize comments. They would have been very lively.
Subject: Re: Final Showdown Voting Thread--All Should Vote
I, as a nerd, will have to vote for Nerd City.
Subject: Re: Final Showdown Voting Thread--All Should Vote
I have to go with 5. Twice as long and at least twice as funny, not to mention twice the difficulty. Good job!
As for comments on mine, it was one of the first I put up on here and I had been used to the heckling in the screenwriting competitions. I found out later that parody writers are a different crowd. I'll have to check with Chucky some time and see if he can fix it.
Subject: Re: Final Showdown Voting Thread--All Should Vote
Hmmm...this is a tough decision. The magnificent masterpiece vs. the little nerd that could. I'm just a sucker for the underdog, I guess.

5 it is.
Subject: Re: Final Showdown Voting Thread--All Should Vote
I refuse to vote for a parody of a song that I am unfamiliar with, so may "Nerd City" live long and prosper.
Unlike the Sisting Chapel, Nerd City is the home of: William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, Eddie Deezen (of the movie, "WarGames"), Robert Carradine, and Gedde Watanabe (Asian American from the Brat Pack movies).
Yay, Nerd City! :D
Subject: Re: Final Showdown Voting Thread--All Should Vote
6 Nerd City
I went back and forth between these two and finally settled on this one based on humor and rhyming.
Subject: Re: Final Showdown Voting Thread--All Should Vote
I have to vote for Nerd City.
Subject: Re: Final Showdown Voting Thread--All Should Vote
Both songs are excellent...I'm going to go with Nerd City. Made me laugh a little harder.
Subject: Re: Final Showdown Voting Thread--All Should Vote
yeah.....Nerd City was just funnier
Subject: Re: Final Showdown Voting Thread--All Should Vote
Although Nerd City was a funny write, Sweat Sistine Ceiling was much more inventive and a much more difficult song to parody. Both songs are great and this is a tough choice.
My vote: 5 - Sweat Sistine Ceiling.
Subject: Re: Final Showdown Voting Thread--All Should Vote
No contest. My vote goes to Nerd City, because I think it must have been written about me. And it was very well-writted, too.

I really like "Nerd" but like "Sweat" better.

Sweat : Sistene Ceiling
Subject: Re: Final Showdown Voting Thread--All Should Vote
Well, by my count we're deadlocked 11-11. Since I'll be offline for the next five days or so I think we should just call it a draw. They're both great songs and it was a lot of fun. Thank you again for everyone who participated, especially those who voted promptly every round. I'm not planning on running another one of these for awhile so if anyone else wants to, feel free to go right ahead. I have been thinking of an idea for a possible monthly contest though--if you're interested look for the thread I'm about to post that says "Song Of The Month Contest".
Subject: Re: Final Showdown Voting Thread--All Should Vote
I feel great about calling it a draw. I used to say as a joke, "I don't mind playing second fiddle, as long as I'm part of the orchestra" For now, I'm thrilled to "co-chair" with Earl. And I'd like to ask his permission to record "Nerd City" and post it. (Unless he has means to do it himself) I'm still going to work on doing one of Claude's. As always, don't expect an "Al Yankovic" note for note copy, I'm in it for the fun, so I arrange by my whims. It's been more fun than I imagined, especially considering my early reluctance and internet troubles. It comes from entering so many "Commercial song" competitions where the sappiest, crappiest one wins. We posted a new song on Soundclick, if anyone is interested called "My Good Son". Thanks again, everyone who voted.
Subject: Re: Final Showdown Voting Thread--All Should Vote
by amiright standards getting a contest down to a two way tie is an extremely successful contest... congratulations rick and earl and thanks Claude for such a well-run and organized competition
Subject: Re: Final Showdown Voting Thread--All Should Vote
Congratulations, Rick. I'm honored to just be on the same site as someone of your caliber.
It would be great if you could do the music and I could do the lead vocal, since I drove around Dead Man's Curve...excuse me, drove around Seattle...singing "Yeah, I drive around town and I look like a dork/And when I eat lunch I'm using a spork" sounding just like the original. I got the idea after thinking of someone's comments about a parody involving sporks. The title was next, and then I pulled over and started writing.
And I just uploaded two more parodies today. The saga continues...

Happy to have you do vocals, give me an idea how. Either you come here, or I send you a "Music minus One" cd and you record and mix it your voice in. I forgot where you live. You can get on our site and email us if you have ideas. Mari and I are going to do "Sweat " live and see how it goes.

I have failed as a nerd. I can't find your site.
Subject: Re: Final Showdown Voting Thread--All Should Vote
Ahh...Claude, A most Solomon-like decision. And most apropos, too. Congratulations then, to the CO-CHAMPIONS, Rick D and Old Comedywriter. And the Masochist I mentioned in my Vote post for this round would be doubly pleased, also. I'm sure glad this doesn't have to go to the Supreme Court, I don't think Justice Scalia would like either of your parodies and he might try to put us all in jail.

Claude, OH-OH, Supreme Court, here we come. If they ever catch that "Chad" fellow they ought to hang him. Does Scalia have to recuse himself or can we do it for him?

With the impending demise of the "Voting Top Ten Lists", things like a Song Of The Month Contest, and future Tournament Brackets, could fill the void, so-to-speak, left by the end of the top ten lists....they would give people a chance to vote and express preferences and opinions in an open forum once again.
And then there's my idea of the "Invitational Poll" ... see ChuckyG's "No More Voting Top Ten Lists" thread for more on that idea...
