Subject: Bracket 2 Round Three Voting Thread
1 Mari Aranoff Duncan (4.82) Blighted by the Lice

vs.
5 Rick Duncan (4.60) Sweat: Sistine Ceiling
11 Diva (4.28) Emoticons

vs.
6 John Jenkins (4.56) Budget Surplus
I know one of these matchups looks a little familiar; that'll either make this one easy or interesting. I know a lot of the matches are so close it could go either way depending on my mood when I vote. Anyway, Duncan vs. Duncan should be fun to watch. Let's go for a Tuesday night deadline. And as always, EVERYONE IN THIS BRACKET SHOULD VOTE. I feel stupid saying that but obviously I need to.

OK, here's mine:
I'm voting for 1 and 11.
Blighted by the Lice and Emoticon. My favorite has already been eliminated. Both of these were tough choices. I flipped a coin on one of them.
Subject: Re: Bracket 2 Round Three Voting Thread
My choices are 5 and 11. Tough choices.
Subject: Re: Bracket 2 Round Three Voting Thread
1 and 11
Subject: Re: Bracket 2 Round Three Voting Thread
I have to go with #1 because I believe that a woman's wrath is far more terrifying than a man's ( :D ;D ) and #11 because I love emoticons ;D :o :D ;)
Subject: Re: Bracket 2 Round Three Voting Thread
My votes are going to 5 and 11.
1 gave me waaay too many bad memories of having lice in the seventh grade. And 6 is a little too political for me, and plus I don't know the "Americasn Pie" verses that well, just the chorus.

1 and 11
It was almost impossible to determine which of the first two parodies deserved my vote. I think the deciding factor was the rhythm of the rhyming patterns for "Blighted by the Lice."
The second choice was easy. Diva deserves to advance for many reasons. If she had voted for herself in the first round, there wouldn't have been a tie, and Claude would not have had to nobly withdraw and let me go up against Spaff. (If we continue to have these contests, I might eventually be the answer to a trivia question - who beat Spaff?)
... and, of course, Diva wrote a very good parody.
Subject: Re: Bracket 2 Round Three Voting Thread
:-/
Both songs seem to be hard to parody.
Both songs are funny, originial, and well written.
This was a tough choice, and the technical merits of your
parodies are a dead heat.
5 -I'm giving Rick this one, because it's a more likable topic.
John's Parody is well executed. He used a more difficult song.
I think my topic is more original.
6-John, because I'm using the same criteria for voting for each parody, why change now?
Subject: Re: Bracket 2 Round Three Voting Thread
5 & 6.
It was hard, but I went strictly on pacing.
Subject: Re: Bracket 2 Round Three Voting Thread
Claude - I've had trouble connecting to the site the last couple days and when I've gotten here it's been VERY slow for me. I have to go out for a bit but will try to vote on these when I get back. I also see we have the semi-final "Battle of the Duncan's" here. Anyway, will be back later today, InterNet willing. pr

Duncan vs. Duncan... must be a karmic thing or something. Actually, I thought that Adagio would advance instead of me (I really like "Bad Snowman"). It's still a bit early for me to cast my vote, since it's more fun to keep it mysterious (hee hee). Besides, there is a lot to see on amiright because I've been sidelined by a lot of work and a glitchy DSL connection at home (pant, pant) :P

I apologize in advance if this is spamming but I thought because it was nearing time for the big dance and we've been having these fun bracket tourneys, why not have fun with the basketball one too? :)
For anyone who is interested, I set up a bracket system for us to have fun with. No money, just bragging rights :)
http://ricecube.mayhem.sportsline.com
You need a CBS Sportsline ID to play, and if you're interested in getting into the bracket (there's no way for me to make it public) please PM me your e-mail address and I swear I won't spam you, this is so I can invite you in.
You can also try to access it using the URL I provided, and use the password "ricecubebracket" to get in :)
Hope you guys and gals join in, the more the merrier :D
Subject: Re: Bracket 2 Round Three Voting Thread
Man, I should have voted earlier when I was able to get on the site! Wasn't sure if I could get back on or not today.
Anyway, really tough choices. I hate to see any of these go out, but:
Match #1
#5 - I voted against this one last round because of that terrific golf parody that drew me there onto the course for a round (albeit a tough one), but here my fondness for the original, "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" gives it a slight over Mari's fine work.
Match #2
#6 - I'm going with John J's masterful "Budget Surplus" here.
Haven't looked to see who anyone else voted for in this round. I really hope this isn't a deciding vote on either of these matches.
Good luck to whoever is in the finals here. I'll check for the new Round #3 bracket later or tomorrow.
Subject: Re: Bracket 2 Round Three Voting Thread
even though i had some trouble following the pacing on the song that clobbered me in the first round (i downloaded it and found out i actually do know the song just not the title) i'm still voting for it because i trust that rick can make it sound right and seems a little more original and creative.
I'm sticking with my vote for the repeat round
so 5 and 6
Subject: Re: Bracket 2 Round Three Voting Thread
My votes for Round 3:
5 - Rick
11 - Diva
:) 8) ;D :o
Subject: Re: Bracket 2 Round Three Voting Thread
1: Mari
6: John
Subject: Re: Bracket 2 Round Three Voting Thread
I'm supposed to vote in Spaff's place this round but after what happened in the first round I'm planning on waiting til the last minute just in case so I'll be voting tonight.
Subject: Re: Bracket 2 Round Three Voting Thread
The matchups just keep getting tougher, don't they?
My votes:
Sweat: Sistine Ceiling, and
Budget Surplus.

Subject: Re: Bracket 2 Round Three Voting Thread
All right, so all the votes are in except for me and STG. Rick has already beaten his wife (heh heh) and since "Budget Surplus" is one of my all-time favorites it will cause a tie. It's unlikely STG will vote since he missed last round and I think John just might kill me if I don't just accept that Diva won the damn round so I will. Posting the Round 4 thread now.

I thought Rick had stopped beating his wife.
Claude, I wouldn't have killed you, but you clearly did the right thing in placing Diva in round 4 against Rick. I really appreciate your facilitating this March Madness event and letting me get a lot of exposure for one of my parodies. And having you call it one of your all-time favorites is possibly a better reward than actually winning the contest.
Claude, it seems like you have been doing a lot of Messageboard posting at all hours of the day and night and you have not been contributing any parodies that I have noticed. So, we know that you have been making sacrifices for this event (including withdrawing your own parody, which probably would have won) and we appreciate it. Hope you have a great vacation.
Subject: Re: Bracket 2 Round Three Voting Thread
I vote for #5 only because I know the original of that one, and #11 because that parody was kinda cute.

Thanks John; this has been a lot of fun and a good excuse to take a break from parody writing. I'm fortunate to work close to home so it hasn't been all that difficult to keep an eye on things. I am looking forward to that vacation though.
