Only the people in this bracket should vote. Do so by reading both songs in each pair carefully, back to back. As you read, be sure and fill out the regular voting form too, even if you know you've already voted (just in case). Half of the songs won't make it past this round so it's important they pick up the regular votes. It only works if everyone does it. Also, if your computer is set to not allow cookies, your votes apparently won't register so if you like receiving votes make sure you are giving them too.
Post your tournament votes as replies to this thread, naming your choice for each matchup by number. For example, if you happen to like the first choice in each pair, your message would contain the numbers 1, 9, 5, 4, 6, and so on. Also feel free to briefly explain your votes if you like. You can always do some voting now and come back to do the rest; it doesn't have to be a big thing hanging over you.
Just some reminders: Only fifteen people are voting in this bracket and seventeen in the other to prevent any ties. You must vote in every round even once you've been eliminated. I gave Bracket 1 a week to vote the first round; most were done after 3-4 days then had to wait and wait for the others, so I'm setting the voting deadline for Wednesday night for this round. If you know you'll need more time just pm me and we will work it out. Thank you.

MATCH ONE:
1- Both songs are good, but when I took a look at STG's, it seemed.....messy...I dunno, it's just what it felt like
MATCH TWO:
8- #9 isn't there, I'll edit if I feel he deserbves the win, but I gotta vote for Adagio here.
MATCH THREE:
12- Props to Ethan for writing a whole song about playing a Flute.
MATCH FOUR:
13- I smell a set-up, putting the two A Horse with no Name parodies together ;)
Anyway, trying hard not to be biased since, well, it's my parody, I just have always felt that parodies were meant to be funny, and his wasn't, though it wasn't really meant to.
MATCH FIVE:
11- I don't know much politics and economic stuff, so I felt that Diva's had better accessibility
MATCH SIX:
14- For whatever reason, the lines "Ribit, ribit, ribit, ribit, ribit, ribit, ribit--doo-dah!" made me laugh out loud
MATCH SEVEN:
10- One of my favorites of the Cubed one, just a great parody
MATCH EIGHT:
2- Funny.Song.Period
Subject: Re: Bracket 2 Round 1 Voting Thread
Ooooh, it looks tough already! But I'll reserve judgment until all of the songs are in.

Are you voting for us or for Claude? I'm not gonna hate you either way, it's just that we're the 10 seed and Claude is the 7 seed and the way you voted seemed confusing.

Yes, Agri, but remember that Claude's 'Wednesday' voting deadline is for the thread vote only. You can take more time to leave a vote and comment on each of the 16 songs if you want. Or you can just read six songs a day, do three comparisons a day, and be done with everything by Wednesday 8).

Good plan, except I haven't heard from Michael since he first claimed his spot (seems like two weeks ago but I'm not sure). I sent him an instant message last night but haven't heard from him yet. If I hear nothing in the next few hours, I am offering his spot to MysteryGoat. One way or another, there will be a song there today.
Subject: Re: Bracket 2 Round 1 Voting Thread
1 Blighted By The Lice
I have to go with Mari on this one since I have tried to parody this song before and failed miserably. Never even gotten close to finishing one let alone to final submission. Anyone who has gone up against this song is at a definate disadvantage. I found STG's "I'm So Blocked" to be good but unfortunately this match up seemed to be just a bit one sided. I don't play "survivor" and my voting will reflect an honest assessment. STG may have gotten my vote had this song gone up against something else.
8 Bad Snowman This was the toughest one to decide. I like both original songs and both of these are masterpieces. I love Startrek and I have written my own parodies to each of these. Michael made very good use of internal rhyme and paced it perfecto and Pat's is just plain funny and goofy as the original, even more so. I did the only fair thing, I flipped a coin and Bad Snowman won the toss.
5 Sweet Sistine Ceiling
This was a tough one. I think what did it for Rick's song was the Italian verse he injected into the parody. Ethan's choice using OutKast was a negative for me. The lyrics were great and even though I did catch the tune of the original it is not something I really identify with. Again, I feel the matchup could have been done better. Maybe STG and Ethan should have been matched against each other. Just my feeling on it.
13 That Course Killed My Game.
Excellent golf parody. This was well done. I spent my youth on golf courses either playing, caddying or hocking golf balls to earn a buck and have several golf parodies of my own. And I don't think it would have mattered if I would have selected a different song I think that wdh and I still would have been paired up because my other choice would have probably been my "Fairway On Seven" parody of "Stairway To Heaven" and knowing Claude he would have matched up the two golf songs.
11 Emoticons.
Both songs are great. JJ I commend you for a well written "American Pie" song. A monumnetal feat just writing one of these but even better to have written it well and you did but I have to go with Diva based on her novality in this parody. She has a lot of extras with the actual emoticons injected into the parody. This was a really tough choice. Diva has a fresh and original idea and banged this one out very well.
14 Your Pond/All Frog People
Another tough one to vote. I so liked both songs but what broke the tie for me was the fact that Ag's song is more original. So many were done on that superbowl breast stroke to include one by me. Also current events parodies tend to fade with time. Ag's song is good anytime so I had to cast my vote in this direction. Paul, your's was one of the better JJ songs of the superbowl. Had you gone up against any other JJ/superbowl parody I would have probably leaned your way.
7 Pee Our Test
To be completely fair I have to go with Claude's. Although I liked very much the lyrics to "Master of the Mouse" and I could catch the drift of the song I do not know the original and could not find a sample of it although I feel I should know the original. I am a computer geek by profession and can readily adapt the lyrics to the discipline and this was well done, I cannot fairly score it without knowing the original. Claude's Disney tune is readily recognizable to me and he kept the thing going through a very lengthy original song that has long lyrics lines and did it flawlessly with lots of clever puns.
2 Thirteen Way Of Looking At A Twinky
This is like 13 mini parodies in one. How does someone compete with this? Although Chris's song is excellent, my vote has to go for the originality and freshness of Spaff's song. Chris, Spaff is an awesome song writer, probably the best on this site and it was just luck of the match up that made me not vote for yours.
Claude, I think if that last song does not come in before the voting deadline you will have to let Adagio win this round by default unless you get someone like Mysterygoat to post something fast. It would be nice to get a song in there but in all fairness we should not let it affect the voting deadline. I sure hope MM gets his song in soon. I will vote on that last one by modifying this post if and when it get's posted.
Subject: Re: Bracket 2 Round 1 Voting Thread
Thanks, Guy. MG has already expressed interest so it's likely he'll be ready quickly. I agree with you; if I can't fill the slot quickly I won't fill it at all.
About the matchups: The writers were seeded according to overall voting average and matched up automatically the way the NCAA does it--the 16th seed always faces the 1st in the first round and so forth. Having the same song paired was just serendipity, as was the Beach Boys vs. Jan & Dean matchup in bracket 1. I think it's cool, but I didn't make it happen.

Claude, MM lives in the same city as I do. I called him on the phone a while ago and left a voice mail for him to respond to you. I also emailed him. Give him some time to get home from work tonight and we'll see if he doesn't respond. I will try to call him one more time tonight. I actually never got a complete message to him on his voice mail as it cut me off in mid sentence but enough of it was relayed so he knows what I was calling about.

Well, it's been ten days (I just checked) and he's not gotten his song up yet. He's not been around at all as far as I can tell. It's not fair to make everyone else wait and frankly I doubt he's gonna be a reliable (timely, I mean) voter. Also, I told MysteryGoat he'd be in if I hadn't heard from Michael by noon. So how about this: Whichever one (Michael McVey or MysteryGoat) replies to this thread with his song first gets the spot. I'd really like to get this show on the road before we have more server problems and all these threads get lost or something too. Thanks for your help.

ROUND ONE
16 STGI'm So Blocked
That was hilarious! I love food parodies that purposly ramble on and on like that. ::)
MATCH TWO
8 AdagioBad Snowman
The lyrics in this parody were brilliant and would make Weird Al jealous! :D
MATCH THREE
12 Ethan MawyerI Like To Play The Flute (but Not Particularly Well)
DKTOS, but I thought the idea of a horrible flutist (Is that what they're called?) was hilarious!
MATCH FOUR
4 Guy DiRitoA House With Much Blame
It was a tough decision, but I went with the most profound of the two parodies.
MATCH FIVE
11 DivaEmoticons
Emoticon's are cool, and the Bee Gees were an amazing group. THe first time I had heard the song was when Destiny's Child covered it in 2001.
MATCH SIX
14 AgrimorfeeYour Pond/All Frog People
I don't know the other song, so I thought that "Your Pond, All Frog People" was funnier. There should be a sequel as a parody of "Roundabout."
MATCH SEVEN
7 Claude PrezPee Our Test
Pee... our.. test, pee our test, la la la la la la la
Be Our Guest is a classic. The title alone is hilarious. The seuqel could be "Sample My Pee" to the tune of "Under the Sea." :D
MATCH ATE (I'm sorry, eight)
15 Chris Bodily TM (3.76) Gatorade
"That's a big twinkie" (Ghostbusters quote) of a decision, but I honestly thought "Gatorade" was funnier than the Twinkie parody, and not just because I wrote Gatorade. I don't even know the original song that the Twinkie dude parodied, sorry. I drank some Gatorade today, so maybe it's the Gatorade talking, but I haven't had a Twinkie in a long time.

1 vs. 16: DKTOS to both, so it's fair. I vote for #1.
9 vs. 8: Well, of course I have to vote for #9, because I am #9.
5 vs. 12: This is a TOUGH one! But I think #5 was just a tad more creative.
4 vs. 13: Two very good parodies of the same song. I have to go with Guy (#4), not because he's a fellow San Antonian, but because I think there's a special place in almost everyone's heart for the heroes of 9/11 and the aftermath.
6 vs. 11: Although #11 was cute, #6 was a lot funnier.
3 vs. 14: Again, DKTOS to both, but #3 was funnier.
7 vs. 10: Have to go with #10 here. Very well done.
2 vs. 15: I'm going with #15, because one song parody is "neater" than 13 jammed together like a crushed box of Twinkies (lol).

Spaff (2)- 13 Ways of Looking at a Twinkie
Subject: Re: Bracket 2 Round 1 Voting Thread
Ohhh-- this is why I was reluctant to enter the first contest. I really tried to keep personal connections out of this and just judge the songs. Here they are.
1—Mari
8—Adagio
5—Me
13-wdh
11-Diva
14. Agri
7—Claude
2 --Spaff
1---I loved the humor in STG’s parody and we do owe him a thank you for us finding this site, but I really went with the clever story, and how Mari made it scan in a tough song.
8---I’m a trekker, and Michael’s was well written, but the snowman thing made me laugh.
5—Wish I had a lousy song to vote against, but really liked it, living with a flutist and all.
13—Guy DiRito is one of my idols on this site, I’m sitting right next to him on the chart, and he continues to amaze me. But the one he submitted was kind of a downer. I gotta go with the funnier one.
11—Diva outdid herself with clever, and taught me a few things. John got too political for me like Guy did.
14. This kills me because Paul is now a friend, I love his stuff, and Agri sometimes gets a little weird, but he’s the only one to tackle this song, make it amusing, and have the guts to submit it here.
7 Claude. If you read my comment on this song from what seems like ages ago, I wrote that this was one of the funniest things I ever read. Still do.
2. I was going to vote for Chris, because I think Spaff cheated a bit here, submitting a parody opera, but decided it’s a legitimate entry. And he put a lot of effort into it.
Subject: Re: Bracket 2 Round 1 Voting Thread
These were tough.
1 “Blighted by the Lice” – I was not too familiar with the work of STG, but the more I read “I’m so Blocked,” the more I liked it, but ultimately I preferred the way Mari told the story and she gets some degree of difficulty points.
8 “Bad Snowman” – I liked the “Tribbles” parody, but Adagio’s parody had more humorous lines.
5 “Sweat: Sistine Ceiling” – like STG’s parody, the more I read “I like to play the Flute,” the more I liked the self deprecating humor, but I thought Rick did a very good tribute to a beautiful work of art.
4 “A House with Much Blame” – I, too, like golf parodies, and I can definitely relate to and recognize the humor in wdh’s parody, but I’m picking Guy’s tribute to the courageous men and women involved in the 9/11 atrocity.
6 “Budget Surplus” – it appears likely that Diva will advance and she certainly wrote an excellent parody, but the parody I wrote is the kind of parody I like to read. Doesn’t that apply to all of us?
3 “A Boob at the Half” – Agrimorfee wrote a very creative parody, but “A Boob at the Half” seemed better constructed with more funny lines.
7 “Pee Our Test” – This was definitely the hardest choice for me. From my perspective, these are two of the 3 or 4 best of the 16 parodies in this bracket and it is unfortunate that they were paired against each other in the first round. I really enjoy “Les Miserables,” and Rice and Watt did a great job of maintaining the appropriate tempo and injecting humor, but Claude’s puns were too much to overcome.
2 “13 Ways to look at a Twinkie” – Chris Bodily put together a very good parody, but the “Twinkie” medley had more good lines.
Subject: Re: Bracket 2 Round 1 Voting Thread
#1 is great! Hee hee hee
#9 appealed to me more because it's a Trek parody, and I'm a Trekkie :)
#5 has a lot of historical perspective...I like that!
#4...tough choice here.
#11...I like emoticons :) :D ;D :-* ;)
#3...interesting idea :)
#7...Claude has bested us...can we be in Bracket 3? ;)
#15...I love Spaff but this one by Chris appeals to me in many ways.
Thanks for letting us play again ;D
Subject: Re: Bracket 2 Round 1 Voting Thread
Aaaargh! This was difficult because I like all of the parodies and respect the work of all of my fellow writers in this bunch! Well, here goes...
1: I really liked "I'm So Blocked." It was very funny and something that most of us can relate to, in addition to great imagery (sometimes it was TOO good). The match-up of classical composers and binding foods is classic! However, I see some pacing probs and that verse in the middle is exactly like the original (even though it fits) and am voting for me (still remembering what a challenge that "Blinded by the Light" was).
8: While I think that "Tribbles" is very good, I like "Snowman" a little better. The pacing seemed to be a bit off in places in "Tribbles" and I liked the story of "Snowman" a lot.
5: Yeah, it's my husband's parody, but it's just soooo cool! And I don't automatically vote for everything of his (he'll vouch for that). I've always loved this one. It has humor, intelligence, great internal rhymes and lines that match up perfectly with the original without copying them, plus the Italian verse, of course. I would vote for Ethan's over a lot of others, and it's not just because I'm partial to the flute! It scans well internally and externally, has a lot of funny lines, and it's easy to picture that terrible player.
13: I thought that both were well written, but I don't relate as well to political parodies. I love Guy's stuff but there are a lot of his that I think are better (maybe because his funny stuff is so funny!).
11: Same comment re: political parodies to John. I thought that "Budget Surplus" was super and admire his parodying "American Pie" and doing such a good job on it. "Emoticons" was very different and clever, and that sold me.
3: Jeez, this one was hard, and I thought that these two were an equal match. "Frog" was different, creative and fun with a good scan, and probably no one else has parodied that song yet. And while "Boob" used a topic that had already been done by a lot of people, I still enjoyed reading it--that and the way it just flowed perfectly with no awkwardness and fit the original so well.
7: Another tough choice. Rice and Watt had a story that kept my interest and it was funny besides. But "Pee" is classic! Great timing and great "release"!
2: While "Gatorade" is good, I think that Chris has other better ones. Maybe it's the subject matter. I just can't get excited about Gatorade. Although I don't like Twinkies, I can really appreciate the effort that Spaff put into his parody. He gets extra points for innovation, too. And I'm a Wallace Stevens fan.
Just one more thing... this is great because I might not have read some of these otherwise, especially the DKTOS's... guess that's the point, right?

1 Mari Aranoff Duncan (4.82) Blighted by the Lice
(For the sheer athleticism of pacing this difficult song)
9 Michael McVey (4.42) You've Got Your Tribbles, I've Got Mine
("The Bad Snowman" kept way too many of the original song's key words for me.)
5 Rick Duncan (4.60) Sweat: Sistine Ceiling
(This was the hardest for me to call. On the one hand, a sophisticated history lesson; on the other, a whimsical little sketch of youth. Rick edges out for the Italian coda on the fadeout and the surprisingly poignant poetry--research never hurts!:))
13 wdh (3.96) That Course Killed my Game
(Love your work, Guy, but I simply do not care for 9/11 songs...not that they are not tasteful--yours is--, or flag-waving--yours isn't--...it just does not appeal to my sensibilities. wdh also wins out for creatively changing the chorus each time to drive the story inside the song forward.)
6 John Jenkins (4.56) Budget Surplus
("American Pie" parodies we know are a dime a dozen, but John wins points with me for daring to not rhyme the key chorus phrase (ie., "Anakin Guy", hehe). Neat effort typing in the emoticons, though.:))
14 Agrimorfee (3.87) Your Pond/All Frog People
(Even if this was not my own song, I would have voted for it. Topical parodies don't stay fresh.)
7 Claude Prez (4.45) Pee Our Test
(Funny, LOL puns. :D Changing every chorus. A topic that many people can relate to, or have heard about. Followed the original word-for-word, even the spoken parts. Could be done as a Broadway tune!)
2 Spaff (4.79) Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Twinkie
(DKTOS of "Ace of Spades". I had wanted to do a Stars on 45 parody for the longest time, but Spaff did it--and better than I would have, maybe. ;) )

Thank you.

Totalling up the results, so far I have the #1, 2, 5, 7, and 8 seeds advancing. Congratulations to all, especially ME; my fiendish plot is coming along very nicely. Just a reminder that as part of the master plan to ensure no ties I am voting in Bracket 1 only so there will be 17 voters in Bracket 1 and 15 voters in Bracket 2. Except that I'll be doing Spaff's voting in Bracket 2. It turns out he wasn't kidding when he said he really didn't have time for this so now I feel bad I dragged him into it. I was eager to fill the bracket though and it's worked out fine; I appreciate his willingness to let us use his song and if it annoys anybody in any way take it out on me and not him. So here's my votes: 1, 8, 12, 13, 6, 14, 10, 2. As always, all tough choices and I tend to overlook flaws and focus on funny lines and stuff.

Subject: Re: Bracket 2 Round 1 Voting Thread
Aw, I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS! I've typed this all out twice and lost both of them!! All the comments and everything. I went to "Preview" the first one after about 2 hours of reading, weighing, voting, commenting and it went "bye-bye" to where I do not know. So I did it all again, trying to recreate my comments/reasoning as closely as possible while shortening them a bit. When I clicked "Post" I got a message my InterNet connection had failed. So THAT version seems lost now, too. I'm too tired to re-create all the comments now. I'll post my votes now and make fresh comments tomorrow.
Well, here I am again...woke up early so I figured I'd finish re-writing my comments. Originally I had more to say about the songs that lost in these matches also, but I lost those comments a couple times already and now I will mostly focus on the parodies I picked in each match-up.
match #1
1. Blinded by The Lice - Both works were very good here. Mari's is so intricate, well-timed and funny that I had to give it the nod.
match #2
9. You've Got Your Tribbles, I've Got Mine - Real close here, loved both of them. "Bad Snowman" because I liked "Come Together" so much and this parodies weird lyrics fit very well with the mood of the original. But I went with "Tribbles" because it brought to mind the original Star Trek episode that featured those fast-multiplying little furballs. This parody brought back all the fun that it was to watch it when it was brand new -
match #3
#5 Sweat: Sistine Ceiling - This was a tough call. I really thought both works were splendid. Attention to detail all the way through. I gave the edge to this number mostly because I am so fond of the original song. When it first came out I bought the album without having heard any of it because I liked all 3 of the players and the bands they came from very much. This was the opening track and when I heard it I was just blown away; I had never heard anything quite like it before. Stills with his "D-"tuned guitar, the harmonies blending perfectly; the changes within the song, and just to top it off there was Stills throwing in a bunch of Latin-sounding gibberish that I (and many other listeners, probably) spent many hours trying to decipher. (I loved it but now I get revenge by parodying a lot of his songs).
match #4
#13 That Course Killed My Game - Comment: The writer picked me up and took me out to the course with him here; This was a perfect Golfing parody! I could FEEL the heat, the bad lies, the hazards, the anguish of having thought through a difficult shot, figuring out just what you need to do, confidently approaching the ball, and....then lifting up slightly as you are about to make contact and hitting a dismal, dying quail right where you DIDN't want it to go. This sounds like the type of course that where having a decent short game is not enough to keep your score from ballooning well over 100. After a while you realize you're not going to beat this course so you might as well try and hit as many good shots as you can, enjoy the day and the company and not worry too much about your ever-growing score.
match #5
#6 Budget Surplus - John really captured the Capitol Hill scene as it is today; all the posturing and all the irresponsibility for people who OUGHT to know better and OUGHT to care more about what happens to this country - right now, of course, but also in the FUTURE, when all the interest from this crazy borrowing will have to be paid off.
match #6
#14 Your Pond/All Frog People - Gosh, I really got surprised by how good this parody was! It was SO DAMN FUNNY! Each time I listened to it and read the lyrics I was laughing out loud! As much as I don't care much for "Yes" this parody really worked for me. As for my "A Boob At the Half" parody I think that technically I could not have written it any better, I paced it right, told the story the way I thought it was and the conclusion fell right into place. And I do feel it was quite funny, but more in a wry sort of way. In the end I had to give the nod to pure hilarity over those qualities.
match #7
#7 Pee Our Test - Yes, it REALLY is a small world when you have some "Disney Dragoon" looking over your shoulder, scrutinizing your stream to make sure you are sober enough for Mimimum Wage employment. Every drop of this parody landed dead-center in the cup. When it's full, toss it end-over-end over your shoulder to the "pee-monitor" and exit laughing, 'cause you've got to know that this CAN'T be a place where you'd want to spend 40 hours a week. Actually this is a "cut & paste" from the comments I made on the original parody thread; I had some different remarks here that I sort of recall as being amusing but damned if I can remember what they were. But I loved this parody.
match #8
#2 Thirteen Ways of Looking At A Twinkie - Both parodies deal with giving you energy in certain ways: "Gatorade" had that special stuff that replaces lost minerals, nutrients or whatever so you don't do the heat exhaustion thing after a strenous workout. And this parody did "electro-light" up my brain...but in the end it was overwhelmed by Spaff's 13 ding-dong super-blitz medley.
Well, stick a fork in me...I'm done...Looking forward to voting in the next round. Congrats, Agrimorfee and all the other 1st round victors!

Actually since Paul eliminated himself (very classy) there are only two left undecided--4 vs. 13 and 11 vs. 6, and I'm sure you know at least 3 of those songs. Since you and STG are the only ones left to vote, if his does not decide them, if there is any way you could vote on just those two matchups any sooner that would be great. If not, then yes, Friday is fine.

Paul - I never trust online stuff. Best way to do this I found is to bring up workpad or notepad, and draft up whatever it is that you are wanting to post. Save it occassionally as you edit it and then when you are finally ready, paste the saved copy into the post. If it eats it then you always have a copy of the thing on your hard drive and there is no question where the source is so you can get it back and avoid the frustration.

I'm voting for WDH and John Jenkins. For the first one, being a pacifist i really can't vote for a parody calling people who unfortunately happened to share a country with saddam and bin laden soulless and deserving of being warred upon. I would expect Guy to do the same thing to me if i submitted an anti-Bush parody to this tournament which is why i didn't. As for the 2nd matchup, John's was really well written and Diva's choice seems like it wouldn't make much sense if it was simply sang and to me that kinda defeats the purpose of a song parody.
Subject: Re: Bracket 2 Round 1 Voting Thread
Guy, yeah, on the third time around I finally STARTED to wise up EVER SO SLIGHTLY and at least partially did what you suggest: frequent saves. The notepad/the copy-paste is even better and I DO use that method when posting parodies (except I always seem to want to tinker with it after I have pasted it into the Submission field. THAT has caused me a bit of grief on more than one occasion, also). Now when I start making those little changes I do a "copy and then paste back to a new word doc., Many thanks for the tip, Guy...

OK, first, let's talk about me me me. Had I paid attention to the rules and realized that we are stuck with the same parody throughout the whole tourney, I wouldn't have entered something so esoteric.
But if anyone's interested in where I'm coming from on this, please go here: http://www.spaff.com/poesy/13_ways.html
There's a link there to "Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird," the great Wallace Stevens poem whose structure I'm parodying. As for the "Stars on 45" medley, which provided the musical inspiration, I realize that most of you haven't heard it forever, if at all. (It was a #1 hit in 1981 but hasn't exactly been in heavy rotation since then.) So I actually dug up a 23-year-old vinyl single of it and had my tech-head brother make an MP3 out of it. You can hear it, scratches and all, via that same link. So give it a listen. It's a fun (albeit cheesy) medley that may bring back painful memories.
Now, I'm sure that all you really wanted to see here was my tournament voting, so I'll get right to it. I've now voted high (once) and commented (at least once) on all of these individual parody pages (which was easy to do since I liked them all), so please check for my comments there. And for those of us who don't advance in the tourney, at least we got some more attention. And isn't that what we're all really after? Anyhoo, my selections are 1, 8, 5, 13, 6, 14, 7, 2.

Agrimorfee - Thanks for the praise. Actually, I think a few other folks in the Tournament have done the same. I guess mine stood out a little more because I voted kind of late. I think the best part of this event is that we end up getting exposed to a wider variety of stuff than we might usually check out, both original songs and parody works. Good luck in the next round. Every entry that moved forward is really strong.

You know, I was sorta wondering out of all your songs why you chose that one. I'd kinda like to let you switch for the next round but that wouldn't be fair to everyone else (or bode well for me, your next opponent, in the voting). That said, I HIGHLY recommend everyone follow that link, read the poem, then listen to the mp3 while reading the parody. As I suspected, this one is even more fantastic if you know what's going on and I'll definitely add this link to the round 2 bracket.

Ethan, I think you totally missed the point of this competition and the meaning of my song as well and I am sure you miscalculate when you say "I would expect Guy to do the same thing to me if i submitted an anti-Bush parody to this tournament which is why i didn't".
First of all I did not let any other bias get in the way of my voting. I voted objectively based on originality, freshness, humor where it applied, pacing and timing. It made no difference to me what the content matter of the parody was. I stuck to objectivity. Had you put a worthy anti Bush song in and it was better than your competition I would have voted for you.
Next you misinterpret the meaning of the song I wrote. The souless reference was directed at those directly responsible for the attacks on 9/11 for the killing of innocent non combative types. Notice I did not include the Pentagon. This was a military target. I work for the Army and I knew some people who went to work in there that day and did not go home that night. I also know another who escaped death by mere feet. You would think that I would have included them in the song but the song was about the slaughter of the innocents and the souless terrorists that did the slaughtering.
So you may think me a war monger or a facist if you like, that is your right to your opinion. I used this competition to share a song and a message with anyone who chose to read it. If you cared to notice I did not vote for my own song. I wasn't in this for the win.
I just wanted to set the record straight. Thank you for entering a well written song.
Subject: Re: Bracket 2 Round 1 Voting Thread
Thanks for clearing that up... i thought this was about the war on Iraq which i was completely against but after looking more carefully i see its about the immediate retaliation for 9/11 so the content doesn't really bother me anymore... but i still stand by my vote for the same reason as Spaff left on the comments for that song

Diva, I want to congratulate you for a very strong parody and wish you luck in the future round(s). I especially want to thank you for your sportsmanship, open mindedness, or whatever quality caused you to vote for my parody and almost not advance because of that.
Of course, I also want to extend congratulations and wishes of good luck to the other writers who advanced. For myself, I appreciate all of the comments and votes that were given to my parody. And I realize that as difficult as the voting choices were in the first round, they are going to be harder in future rounds.

John, Thank you very much.
I think that American Pie is a difficult song to parody.
In all honesty-- I think my topic was more original.
Your parody was more complex and very well written.
Many of the choices that I made in this contest,
were very difficult ones. At the wire, it was the merits of the parody, not the topic, that swayed my vote.
I wish you the best of luck!
It looks like-- your still in the game! :)
