Subject: About Appreciation Week...
This week, I am surrounded by work and school. It would not be fair of me to simply pick a random person without looking at any of their songs myself. Next week, a new recipient will be chosen over the weekend as usual. Please feel free this week to go back over the other authors who have been appreciated so far and see if you missed any of their recommended songs. See you next week.

When this happens, why not just take it from the top of the authors list? Let Malcolm Higgins be the one. Next time Tong. Next time after that whoevers at #3 at that time. Or, if positions should change, the one highest up who so far hasenīt had his week. Not that we should encurrage quantity writing, but that would be a simple enough solution for you.

The original idea with Appreciation Week was to draw attention to authors who don't get a lot, as opposed to the ones everyone knows and discusses (like those at the top of the contributor list).
But since I'm retired from the Appreciator job (thanks many times over, 2nz, for assuming the position), I suppose I shouldn't butt in with comments like this.

Oh, I didn't know that - I'd always thought 2nz came up with the idea himself. Anyway, that was obviously 2nz' idea as well. Hey, could just write a script to check, say, the 20 people at the bottom of the list and choose the person with the highest rating ;-).

Nope, you nailed it Spaff. By the by, you're the reason why appreciation week started, so feel free to make comments whenever. Actually, being at the top of the authors list is a point against authors who want an appreciation week. For the most part, the week tries to focus on someone who has less than 10 votes per parody, although that is not set in stone. I'm also considering trying to include authors who have been here for a while, but are just not getting as much attention as they used to, because the audience here at Amiright has definitely changed through the years. And something else that is important to note: These are MY opinions. I nominate authors who 'I' think aren't getting the attention they should get. And because this is my little dictatorship, if people get unhappy with my choices or my approach, I hope they tell me. Oh, before I go there is another rule that I follow for everyone to bear in mind: To have a week, you must be on the top half of the authors list, meaning you must have written at least 25 parodies and submitted them to amiright. It's an initial-staying-power test, basically.

But note that all of the rules I usually follow can be bent if I see someone not getting a lot of votes currently and still going out and commenting on the work of others as much as possible.

Me neither - Me too. Sorry for butting in, I obviously didnīt really know what this was about.

I've also thought about starting an appreciation week, but it's too hard picking just one writer at a time! I would always feel as though I'd left someone out. Some writers on Amiright have expressed that they feel underrated. I'd like to check out everything but there is so much to see that it's impossible. So many parodies, so little time!

Isn't it a great problem to have? There are so many quality writers here it's easy to miss some. Or, to put it another way, you can just keep on reading good stuff here till the cows come home.
