Subject: Jan Unwin Appreciation Week

Written By: 2nz on 01/24/04 at 10:52 p.m.

Yeah, someone you all know you'd love to know. Whether you're 'Going to Ban Canned Crisco' or just shopping around for a 'Pair O' D's', it's time to appreciate Jan Unwin. She currently fights a weekly battle to lift a vote average up over 5 votes per parody, but it just doesn't wanna go. Let's see if this week we can't put her average solidly over 5 votes per. Let's get to it. And I can't forget my link for easy access: http://www.amiright.com/parody/authors/janunwin.shtml

Just spotted your reference to Jan's week in the parody comments section and must say you have made another excellent choice.  I've been trying to catch up on her works for a while now and will re-double my efforts with this reminder.  The "Appreciation Week" concept is truly a gift that keeps on giving.

I feel truly honored as there are some amazingly talented people here.  I appreciate your encouragement and try to learn from the feedback I receive.  Maybe I should tell you a little about myself.  I am a 50-year old grandmother living in Washington State.  Which I suspect makes me one of the oldest people here.  What I love about parodies is that I am able to combine a love of humor, a natural ability to write poetry, my absolute enjoyment of a good pun, and a need to be creative.  The person I crack up most often is myself.  But it's also immensely rewarding when someone else "gets it".   Lately, I find myself in parody mode.  Every song I hear, whether it be on the radio, TV, or just in passing throughout the day, gets me thinking of it's potential.  It's exhausting!

I'd love to be able to comment more on other people's parodies, but I am mostly familiar with the oldies.  I will make it a point to expose myself (Oh! Parody idea! Expose Myself...Express Yourself...Madonna) to more kinds of music.  In the meantime, thank you for the recognition and I appreciate you making me laugh as well.

Hi Jan!

I know what you mean - I hear and think of songs and my mind slips into "parody mode" - exhausting sometimes, but always fun!

I am enjoying your parodies here on Amiright, Jan!  You have wonderful parody talent that I hope you will continue to share with everyone.

Keep up the good work!

JD

Jan, good to know a little bit about you.  Now I'm probably not the appropriate person to remind you, since I haven't posted MINE yet, but after 25 posting you may submit a bio or some information about yourself to ChuckyG and it will appear on your "Author's" page above the list of your works here.  Actually, it looks like you could just "Copy & paste" some of what you've said below and maybe add a little more to it to create that.  50 year-old Grandma, eh?  Well, there is a "How old are you parody writer's" question here on the Messageboard from one of the younger contributor's - many have "weighed-in" with their ages.  So far I'm the "leader" at 53 among those bold enough to actually state the numbers.  You will see you are not at all alone in the "50" + range but we are still outnumbered pretty substantially.  Don't know if you are at all familiar with "Moby Grape" from back in the 60's but the first song on their debut album is "Hey, Grandma", although I think they might have been referring to a younger woman wearing what was called a "Granny Dress" at the time.

Paul,

Yeah, I did e-mail a bio to ChuckyG after I hit 25 parodies, but I know he's a busy guy.

Jan, it's nice to see another woman my age doing this!  And your parodies are well written, too.  My favorites (so far) are "Jack La Lanne," and "Rikki, That's My Cucumber," and "Sharpie Girl."  Keep it up, and don't forget to send Chucky a bio!

Jan, well then I don't feel as guilty about not getting around to writing and posting mine yet.  I'm back home in the semi-lunatic confines of the Greater Los Angeles area (got home Saturday night).  Haven't got my computer yet but I'm pretty much decided brand,  just a couple particulars to settle on.  Usually the Public Library right now.  Haven't check the site since Jan 30th and suffering Parody withdrawls.

I've been both stressed with school and sick this week so let me thank everyone for coming out. It seems the week was a big success, and you all kept it lively. I was buried under papers until last Monday. And designating a new week when the week has already started isn't very fair to the recipient. So thanks again and look for this week's author posting on the forum. See you there. And congratulations again, Jan. :c)

Thanks 2nz, and thanks to everyone who has taken the time to read my parodies.  I know everyone is different, but we all seem to share a great sense of humor and the ability to express ourselves in such fun and unique ways.  What I'm really trying to say is that you're all a bit twisted and I'm loving it.
