Subject: Don'tcha just love makin fun of music?
Ok so this isn't exactly about "parodies" but I just wanted to tell everybody about some fun music stuff I like to do:
I made up a game called "Exaggeration" where I take a somewhat fast or up-beat song and play it slow on the piano and kinda...exaggerate it. And the person(s) listening has to figure out what I'm playing. It's funny how long it takes for people to hear "Twist and Shout."
Then I made one called "Exaggeration: The Next Generation", which is basically the same except I change a song in a major key to a minor key or vice-versa...that ones a little harder for people to hear.
And then just the other night I was looking in my sister's book of hymn arrangements for piano. They had one for "The Old Rugged Cross, but it started out with "Dido's Lament"...IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE!!! So me & my sister came up with this thing where we play a secular classical song in "hymn arrangement" style and then make a transition to a hymn. I think my favorite one was from "Death and the Maiden" to "Take My Life and Let it Be." :P LOL
Does anybody else have any little "music games" they like to play?

Sometimes I sing, and people take turns guessing what sort of rodent has been dropped in my pants. Fun for all!

i'm sure you can't be worse then some of the people i saw auditioning tonight on american idol. Or the kid down the hall from me who tries to sing heavy metal loudly and terribly. By the way, this was the first time i ever watched that show.

if you watch that karoake stuff on TV, it encourages them to keep making more of those shows, and the airwaves end up getting polluted with lame cover tunes by these "performers"
Subject: Re: Don'tcha just love makin fun of music?
but they also make ridiculously overplayed non covers that are great targets for parody

Wow... that sounds seriously cool, QueenAmenRa. If you ever get one to actually sound good, you should record it. Reimplementations of songs are fully as cool as parodies, when done right. I point you to http://www.darkesword.com/listen/remix/mp3/lamb.mp3 - Mary Had a Little Lamb in the key of D minor.

That's pretty much what my latest "Mild Kind of Shite" parody is about...

Hedgehog! (I knew I felt a prick...)
On-topic: I've been playing "guess the tune" in various forms for at least eight years with my children - my eldest has been quite remarkably good from a very early age (like being able to identify whistled versions of nearly all the songs from "Oliver" before the age of 2)

Oh yeah I almost forget.
I recently did "Exaggeration: Music Box" where I play the song "music box style" in the very high range of the piano. A little more obvious than the other ones but it's still just as fun. My favorite one I've done so far is Outkast's "Hey Ya." :D
