Subject: Voting?

Written By: Puzzled in PA on 11/25/03 at 05:54 p.m.

Dear Abby, please explain why Guy Dirito has so many parodys in the top ten and how they all got 5 or more new votes today without new comments. All of the other parodys in the top 10 got 0-2 new votes today. Hey Dictator is up to 23 votes but only 5 people have commented on it. Whats his secret?  ???

Well, I didn't say that...  ::)

But Guy's created a good rapport with a lot of the people who submit to the community, as has other excellent artists such as Spaff and Claude Prez and Merry and Pippin, so naturally they'll all vote on each other's stuff.  Also, some people might vote and not comment, it's not like you gotta do both (at least the parody pages don't force you to).

It's just a matter of marketing and getting a reputation.  Doesn't mean the other parodies suck necessarily, they just aren't campaigned as well.

Also Guy generally does very well known songs.  I'm not even going to look at a parody if I don't know the original.  Maybe that I am missing some good stuff but you can't vote on 'meets the pacing of the original' if you don't know it can you?

No more well known than anyone else's. Hey Dictator with 23 votes is a parody of Operator  ??? and another one in the top 10 is a paordy of Tears on my pillow  ??? And the other writers you named are all better but dont fill up the chart like Guy.  ???

I think he puts a lot of work into each parody he does.  Not to mention that he pumps out five or six each day.

If all his parodies are good, and the votes reflect his efforts, then of course they're gonna fill the charts.

Well, maybe you have not been around for all that long...

We filled the charts off and on in the first couple of months after we first began, and Spaff did also. Claude doesn't write as many, so naturally he is not going to have as many showing in the top ten at once, particularly in the weekly one where a parody only stays up for a single week unless it gets a lot of new votes in the second week.

Guy consistantly writes excellent parodies, so it is no wonder that he is filling the charts on a regular basis. :)

Well, that is a matter of opinion, don't you think? :)

Couldn't resist this:

Well, the Florios' are pretty good,
Newbie Rick's are lots of fun
And what I says is that that Claude Prez
Doesn't get 'nuff number ones
Malcolm's been prolific
But he still don't hit the charts
So I'd like to state we'd rather imitate
Someone who's brilliant (in parts):
We all wish we could be Guy DiRito
We all wish we could be Guy DiRito
We all wish we could write Guy DiRito songs

Will Tong holds the record
That will last for years and years
Well, it must be Tong as he's been here so long
One of Amiright's pioneers
But what I do not want to be
(Though I know this thinking's rife)
Is one who closely notes which songs get the votes
'Cause I'd rather get a life
We all wish we could be Guy DiRito
We all wish we could be Guy DiRito
We all wish we could write Guy DiRito songs

...no prizes for guessing the tune ;-)

about guy dirito's songs - while i think he is a talented writer his songs are often too agressively conservative for my taste or speaking a technological language that i don't understand and i think does the same thing that always bothered me about william tong's writing - trying so hard to make the parody correspond to the original that it just sounds wrong. But he's got his fan base that obviously is not bothered by these things. My fan base, however, is too busy studying or running or writing papers or partying to vote on my songs (especially with there being over 250 of them)... and i don't pressure anyone to read my songs or vote because that's not a good way to keep friends

I'll redo the install - I've added quite a bit over the months... I also ought to get something to import parody authors as the list has extended somewhat.

Agreed.  I'll drop an email to people when I've done something appropriate (say, to fellow techies when I've done a PC-based parody), but too many will turn them off pretty quickly...

Hey, wait a minute. I resent the implication that I am engaging in any "marketing" or "campaigning." No way! What I actually do would more appropriately be termed blatant, shameless, in-your-face self-promotion. I just wanted to set the record straight on that.

And speaking of, there are still plenty of you who have not purchased "Elves Gone Wild!" My motives in pushing the CD are pure: I only want everyone to have the jolliest and merriest of holiday seasons, and that's simply impossible without a copy of "Elves Gone Wild!"

The CD is only $9.99 (nine freaking ninety-nine!) at http://www.elvesgonewild.com

If I were engaging in marketing, I would tell you to ACT NOW because supplies are limited. (But I'm not engaging in marketing, so I won't warn you.)

***********UNSOLICITED TESTIMONIAL*************

I got my copy of "Elves Gone Wild!" the day after Thanksgiving.  IMMEDIATELY I began to see results.  I just could not believe how much merrier and cheerier I am now so if you all do not purchase one you're a f*&%in' idiot.  Now go to hell.

PS Great song Phil but I wish you'd have submitted it to irritate Rick (heh heh)  Welcome back.

That's www.elvesgonewild.com
