I've often said how this song/video (with its Alice In Wonderland theme) creeped me out for years (and still does, if I'm not expecting it). ;D Just wondered what everyone else thinks, as a whole, or if you're familar with it, the details.

I like the song, as I like most of Tom's music, but that freaky video is creepy ;D Me and my friend saw Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers a few years back. We had excellent seats, balls dead center in row 5, very close to the stage. and when they started to play that song, there was this large chest or trunk that Tom went and opened and slowly pulled out the huge top hat from the video and put it on and looked like the Mad Hatter. They had a extra large (huka) water pipe like the one the caterpillar smokes in the animated Alice in Wonderland, pschedelic tapestries hung up all over the stage, lots of smoke and colored lights. So that was cool, but i agree that the video is weird and when Alice is a cake at the end and she's watching them cut pieces of her to eat, that's too much. :o

^Sounds cool, man. That must be fun to see live. :)
Most people seemed to get creeped out by the cake scene in the video. I did/do too, but when I was 3, I think what got me the most is when the backup singers shout out "HEY!" at certain points in the song.

It's one of my favorite videos of all time. 8)
Though more weird than creepy, IMO.

I absolutely LOVED it.
Did you know, some video shows wouldn't play the last 10 seconds of it, because of Tom's more-than-eerie smile at the end?

I"m thinking that the edible Alice in Wonderland cake would be a great Halloween costume.

I love Tom Petty and this song. The video was a bit creepy but yet, I couldn't stop watching it when it came on (haven't seen a music video in years).

Yeah, as long as you don't bump into the Mad Hatter!

His "Mary Jane's Last Dance" video is far creepier, IMHO
Though maybe a generation thing since "Don't Come Around Here No More" isn't as weird compared to most videos from Bjork...

It was a tea party. You eat cake at a tea party. She was cake. Therefore, they ate her at the tea party.

Did anyone notice the "feast" at the huge dinner table consisted purely of tea and different types of donuts (which the band was eating with a fork and knife)? You can get a glimpse of it when Tom dives across the table in the bridge.
Believe it or not, I've never seen Alice in Wonderland in its entirety, I'm not sure if that was some type of reference (as most of the video is).

The Disney movie is different than the book, though never read it
She never turned into cake in the cartoon movie
