Technally they were not there TO 'SEARCH THE HOUSE FOR A CRIME' so they had no reason to search it.. (I wonder if he could get out of this)

Canadian law might be different. The police can claim they were searching for possible victims (since it was a 911 call) which would constitute an "exigent circumstance" allowing them to open closed doors and look into rooms, but not open small containers, drawers, boxes, chests, cabinets &etc where an injured human being would not normally be found..
In the US, while in the process of a warrant search for drugs, for instance, the police discover child pornography a person can also be charged for that...
I won't rant about the WoD here, but you know...

You're forgetting something very important here... the call was a 911 hang up. If the dad was acting furtive (which, given the drugs in the house, he probably was) then the officers are obligated to check the house to make sure there isn't something more sinister going on... you don't know how often my guys have gone to a house to investigate a 911 hang up only to find a person in distress. The thing is... its too easy for someone to say oh it was an accident. All we have to go on is our instinct.
If someone calls 911 during my shift and they talk fast and sound like they are trying to get off the phone... I will force them to stay on the phone with me and carry on a conversation so I can assess their state of mind and analyze the background noises. If I get hung up on, some one is curt or rushed or I hear something that sounds okay but sends my hairs up anyway...I send- everytime and I tell the officers why I sent.
so the dispatcher may have said they heard the person hang up the phone on answer or they may have heard the baby scream/cry or they may have heard the dad (as you know people are apt to do) say Oh shyt- or something similar when he realized the kid dialed 911. Any of those are more than enough to warrant the officers to investigate further.

I wonder if he tried to get out of this on a technical aspect,I havent ever heard anything...
