Subject: Atlantic City's Steel Pier
Written By: loki 13 on 12/22/05 at 6:15 pm
I remember going to the Steel Pier as a kid,the
big attraction then was the diving bell, though the
water was too murky to see anything,it was still fun
to ride. There was a movie made about the diving horse
at the pier,I forgot the movies name, something about
hearts,Wild Hearts maybe. The pier was also mentioned
in Rodney Dangerfields movie Back To School. That is where
he did his Triple Lindy.I really miss the annual summer trek
to the Steel Pier,what memories.

Steel Pier is open again, although it's just an amusement area now...
They did away with the diving horse because the SPCA considered the act to be animal cruelty...

This is the last summer for the Steel Pier. Though the diving horse and the diving bell
have long since been gone the pier still contained some asmusement rides. Now the
whole thing will be a memory. After this summer the pier will close for good. Goodbye
to an icon. :\'(

I also remember going to the Steel Pier in the early 60's. One time only I think. Bobby Rydell did a show in a seated theater not sure where on the boardwalk, we also saw many artists in a stand up theater. I remember Freddy Cannon and I think Duane Eddy. Memories are vague but definitely remember having a great time!
