Subject: Glad I found you!!
I guess surfin' for an hour really pays off sometimes! I"m a HUGE 80's alternative fan and I have alot to contribute to this site. I have an extensive collection containing every song by the popular groups like Inxs, U2 and Tears For Fears and the obscure like The Silencers, The Stranglers and English Beat. I Live on Cape Cod but spent my 80's in Imperial Beach where they had the worlds best radio station-91X! I made many tapes off the station before moving and never knew the artists or song title! I've found out many, but maybe you all can help me finish my collection and I can help you finish yours! Lets play name that tune!

Welcome Fiero :D ...what do you still need?
Subject: Re: Glad I found you!!
Hello Fiero!
Welcome to the boards.
I like The Stranglers. Always the Sun and Golden Brown are my favourites. They also did a strange instrumental (sounded almost like fairground music but had wicked goblin laughs thrown in - very bizarre, but great) but I don't know what it is called so maybe you can help me. :D

Bobby, I don't recall that intrumental. I have Always the sun, Skin Deep, Hangin' Around, All roads lead to Rome, Grip, Uptown and 96 Tears! Thanks Boris! I'll post my first one now. I guess quizzes is the board to post it on even though it's not a game?!?

Stick it in the Lyrics, 80's or wanted forum

The instrumental I was referring to was called 'Waltzin' Black' by The Stranglers, Fiero. Karen deserves the credit for this information - if you can download it, do so. It's quite eerie.

Welcome Fiero! Hope you decide to stick around!

Thanks Bobo, plan on it! I can see theres alot of good people and information on this site! I chose "Fiero" as my nick-name because I used to have 2 of them and it's about as 80's as you can get, and like many of the 80's cd's I used to have...I wished I hung on to them! Especially the 87GT :(

Welcome to the boards, Fiero! :D
I know of another X that still plays some '80's/late '70's altenative classics.
Mostly Sunday morning.
Subject: Re: Glad I found you!!
Is this "X" here on the East coast? We have 95.5 WBRU and they play 80s alternative blocks at lunch(1200-1300) mon-fri and then play a mystery song last where they give away cd's and prizes! I've won twice but it's harder to get through the phone line to them than actually guess the song because it's always someone easy like Romeo Void, Talk Talk or The Church! They could make it more challenging with some Shriekback, Guadalcanal Diary or Wonderstuff!

No, this "X" station's from the West coast. (California) There's a request block during lunch that play anything from from the last 25 years. I've heard songs from The Smiths, XTC, Violent Femmes,The Clash, INXS, The Cure, Elvis Costello, U2, Oingo Boingo, The Alarm , etc.to '90's alternative selections, along with a couple current songs. Atleast they don't overplay the same requests everyday. I usually hear about 20 songs from within 12:00 PM to 2:00PM.
During 5:30, there's a segment called "Resurrection Request".
Unfortunately, only one song is played. It would've been better if it was pushed to an hour.
"Resurrection Request" also runs on Sunday from 6:00 AM 'til noon. I normally listen to it by 10:00 or 11:00 AM.
It's also called "91X" and from Southern California.
The rating: It's fairly decent. :) Unlike some "80's, '90's, and today" stations that mostly play songs from the late '90's and today. And literally play the same songs from the '80's. Like 3 Tears For Fears cuts from "Songs from the Big Chair" and "Lips Like Sugar" by Echo and The Bunnymen. As if they didn't have more songs. :-/

I know what you mean! When most stations do a 80s "retro" they'll play Level 42, Mr. Mister, Cutting Crew and Culture Club then call it a day:( I don't even consider these bands alternative! At home I listen and burn songs off the "new wave" digital channel. They actually suprise me once in a while and once in a blue moon I get a song I've always wanted:) Check it out if you have digital cable!
