Just stumbled across this wonderful site while looking for lyrics. What a hoot! ;D
Not so much a misheard but misunderstood set of lyrics - Hickory Hollow's Tramp by the Country Gentlemen.
I thought it was about a boy who's father was a tramp, a hobo, and they were looked after by this nice lady who took in homeless people. She'd put a red light above the door to let the homeless know where she was.
Of course, I now know the song is about something else entirely!! :o

Hey poss. Yes, a lot of people here had come searching for real lyrics. I know when I sometimes search for lyrics for others - lyric REQUESTS... - I come across amiright more times than I should. ie, they're only a display of... say, a single line of misheards. I have to say, I don't know that Hickory... song, but I'm still interested.

Hickory Hollow's Tramps is really about this kid who's mother is a prostitute, hence the red light over the door.
When I was a kid, however, I envisaged Hickory Hollow to be somewhere out in the woods and I had this image of a log cabin with a red light that welcomed hobos. :D

ps My picture is of a real Little Blue Penguin. Her name is Gavin (yes, we didn't know she was a female until she started laying eggs. She was renamed Gavinette but it just doesn't sound right). She was handraised from an egg.
