The members of The Band first worked together as The Hawks, the backing band of rockabilly singer Ronnie Hawkins from 1959 until 1963. Afterwards, Bob Dylan recruited the quintet for his history-making 1965

The word (name) is Fanny.
It is a persons name presumably.

Well I remember the athlete Fanny Blankers Koen (or something like that) so I never thought anything of the name :)
I am protesting my innocence here ;)

thanks for your input everyone
i spoke to my brother about it (he knows about these things!) and he just said read the last verse !
"Catch a Cannonball, now, t'take me down the line
My bag is sinkin' low and I do believe it's time.
To get back to Miss Annie, you know she's the only one.
Who sent me here with her regards for everyone."
he said most people think it's "fannie" that's just because "off" runs into "annie"
