Nope. I don't have a song that makes me go what were they thinking? I have several. ;D Probably way too many to mention. I'm not even sure where I would start. Oh, well anything by Duran Duran comes to mind. All of their stuff sucked. None of it made any sense. And their videos were just plain awful. Another one is, You Spin Me 'Round by Dead Or Alive. Just stupid. And I thought the lead singer was really creepy.

That is the remixed version. You should hear the original version of that song WITHOUT the "do-do..." parts. It is complete do-do. In the video clip I saw, Suzanne Vega sounds like a mute that has stage-fright who has just learned to speak. It was painful to watch.

I was watching a tape of the hit British TV series "Red Dwarf", and it hit me:

The theme song for "Red Dwarf" made me think "???"

For those of you not familiar with some of the lyrics, here's what I remember:

Yep.  It's the eater of bats covering the Bee Gees.  If you don't believe me, get the Prince of Darkness set, Disc 3, Track 12.  An alien from anywhere beyond 30 light-years of Earth would recognize it as a good cover of the original, or the Bee Gees' version as a good cover of Osbourne's original.

I, on the other hand,  having had the misfortune of growing up on Earth, and experiencing the cultural rift between Disco and Metal, am forced to rinse out my ears with bleach every time I hear it.  And yet, it's so good that I voluntarily listen to it, even knowing that I must break out the bleach after every listening. 

And yet, the aliens observing me are scratching their florgarbfelsors with their xefozraqules in confusion at my reaction to the song. Which renders as "WTF" on the universal translator. Which is close enough to "Huh" for government work.

They were using it in Volkswagen commercials, for awhile...
They also had bobble-head dolls on the dashboard...

I have that on one of my CD's.  It's called "I don't love you, you don't love me. 

I rarely have been able to understand just what the hell David Bowie and David Byrne are singing about in any given song (not to say that the songs suck, they are just so...out there). Same with Paul Simon's "You Can Call Me Al", among others.
