Subject: Loop-dee-loop oldie
Written By: sunnydee45 on 07/17/06 at 10:44 am
I got a hard one here I think. It's not the one that keeps coming up (loopy dee loop by Johnny Thunder)
It was someone else who did it.
"Here we go loop de loop here we go loop de li
on a saturday night
Vocals were more hoarse than Johnny Thunder's
from what I remember (I mean it was like 40 years ago when I heard it!)
Anyone have a clue? TIA

I know Bobby Rydell also did a version of the same song - it might just be him...

I fiinally got to hear the Bobby Rydell one and it wasn't him.
I just know the voice was deeper. I have to say though, I had never
heard that Bobby Rydell one before so thank you just the same.

Only other version I know was by British singer Frankie Vaughan...a contemporary 'cover' of Johnny Thunder's hit...

Sorry to hear that. I don't know any other versions of "Loop De Loop", so I don't think I can help you.
Unless...
I don't know which part of the world you're from, but I know there's a song called Loop Di Love by German singer Juan Bastos (Click the underlined to listen to a sample). It was a big hit over here in the early 1970s.
He does have the hoarse voice you're describing... Could it be you've mixed the two songs up? ??? Just a hunch... :-\\

Not Frankie Vaughan or that German singer but Henk, that seems closer to the type of
voice he had than the other singers, ! except it wasn't that song. This one was a take on the Johnny Thunder song
that I thought was better than his but didn't become a big hit.
I'm from Canada but I douibt it was anyone Canadian though the radio would play international hits too.
I always imagined the singer being black or fitting in with the likes of Chubby Checker.
Fats Dominoe, but who knows.

Just remembered there was also another 'cover' version by a group called The Chucks (albeit titled 'Loo-Be-Loo', it was the same rendition...)
The guy singing did have a deep, rough voice to him...but this was a very minor British hit (also 1963), so I may be clutching at straws here...

Glad to have been of help...
Rather odd that Canadian radio chose to play that version...I couldn't tell you the last time British radio played it (probably 1963!)

Its not that it was played on regular radio here. I remember it
from a weekly radio program that would play 45s and lesser known songs, like bsides.
That was one of the songs and thank you again for helping. I had no clue as to
the band name.
