I have had this line going through my head and I am not sure if it is even right.
its a late 80's early 90's song I think. I can tell you it was a guy singing and the line was something like
" I hear my father's laugh in my newborn son's"
Someone please help me

Thats a song called "The Living years" by a band named Mike and the Mechanics :)
Its a great song, i think it was released in 1987 or 1988.

1989. It was the second single released from their 1988 album "Living Years" :)
