Sounds like Grunge. Only snippet I can remember is ...treehouse...living in the trees...season's change.

I've found one or two songs that match with the lyrics you remember, but I'm not familiar with either band. :-\\
Most likely to me is "Treehouse" by Ivory Tower ( http://www.darklyrics.com/lyrics/ivorytower/beyondthestars.html#10 )
Second best (as far as lyrics are concerned) is "Treehouse" by Nada Surf.
