the name of it isn't "It's better to burn out than to fade away"

If that wasn't it, and if the line only appears at the start of the song, and the genre is 80s metal, you're after "Rock of Ages", by Def Leppard. (And if you enjoyed it but didn't recognize it, you need to find a fellow old fart who'll slap you for not recognizing it :)
