Subject: Lost lyricsto old commercial

Written By: cainmac on 06/15/05 at 9:56 pm

Looking for information regarding a very old commercial (TV? Radio?) with these lyrics:
Up in the air Jr. Birdman! Up in the air up side down,
Up in the air Jr. Birdman! Keep your nose up off the ground
When you see the flash of tin
When you hear the doorbell ring
Then you will know that Jr. Birdman
Has turned his box tops in.

Anybody know what the words mean or refer to? What the product was? I believe it comes from between the '40s and '50s.

What on earth could they have been advertising - with a song about the death ("turned his box tops in") of a war pilot, and his "tin" flying wings being brought back to his widow who "will hear the doorbell ring" ?!?!

I don't know what it was from, but I remember hearing "Up In The Air, Jr. Birdman" sung at camp when I was a kid.
