Subject: Who sings this good ole song?

Written By: Harmonica on 06/25/04 at 9:58 am

Here are the lyrics I can remember.

Here's the chorus

Can't you see, oh can't you see, what that woman, she been doing to me.

If I jump off a cliff no one will no I'm going by a ticket, all the way to Georgia now
I'm going crawl into a hole in the corner

Keep in mind these may not be word for word, but I know I like the song so if you could help me out I'd be very appreciative.

thanks ktelqueen I'll have to check that out too. I really like Marshall Tucker Band's version I know that, I'm sure I'll like Minglewood Band's as well.

Sometimes I like remakes and sometimes I don't.  Theirs a new band that sings Lynryd Skynyrd's "Simple Man" I thought that they did a really good job of it. Added in their own styles and textures but left respect to the feeling and passion that Skynryd put into the song.

I think you might be talking about Kylie Minogue's "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" from late '01.  Any other guesses?

Sounds like "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down", recorded by The Band, and later (more famously?) by Joan Baez

Virgil Caine is my name
And I drove on the Danville train
Til Stoneman's cavalry came
And tore up the tracks again

In the winter of '65
We were hungry, just barely alive
I took the train to Richmond had fell
It was a time I remember, oh, so well

(CHORUS)
The night they drove old Dixie down
And all the bells were ringing
The night they drove old Dixie down
And all the people were singing
They went, na na na na.....

Back with my wife in Tennessee
And one day she said to me
Virgil, quick come see
There goes Robert E. Lee

Now I don't mind chopping wood
And I don't care if the money's no good
Just take what you need and leave the rest
But they should never have taken the very best

(CHORUS)

Like my father before me
I'm a working man
And like my brother before me
I took a rebel stand

Well, he was just 18, proud and brave
But a yankee laid him in his grave
I swear by the blood below my feet
You can't raise a Caine back up
When he's in defeat

(CHORUS)
