Subject: Duran Duran song lyric question
Written By: redhead007 on 03/01/04 at 03:01 p.m.
Hello all! I was hoping that someone may be able to help me with this question. It has to do with a favorite Duran Duran song of mine.
I was listening to Duran Duran's first album and I'm absolutely in love with the song To The Shore. There's just one thing about the song that bothers me. Can anyone tell me what a sanhedralite is? ??? (It's in the lines "And diamond stars shine glitter bright/Gorging your sanhedralite") I know that Simon Le Bon is notorious (no pun intended) for his rather ridiculous lyrics sometimes ("Shake up the picture/The lizard mixture" anyone?) but I'm just curious if sanhedralite is an actual thing or something he made up....
Anyone know?

I did a check a B&N just to see if the 30sec clip of that song contained the lyrics you mentioned. And wouldn't you know it, the clip stops right after "And diamond stars shine glitter bright" !
:P

Apparently you're not the only one wondering about their lyrics. There are web sites concerning "sanhedralite"...

Maybe he's saying "Sanhedrin Light"?
According to an old dictionary I have (circa 1967), the Sanhedrin was:
"1. In ancient times, the supreme council and highest court of the Jewish nation. Also Great Sanhedrin. 2. Any council or assembly."
If he's known for his nonsensical lyrics, maybe it's a copulation of "Sanhedrin" and "Light" to form a new word "sanhedralite".
