Subject: Great song, no title

Does anyone know the song and/or band who sings a song with these lyrics in them (they might not be 100%), the song starts with a great single vocal track, with almost no instrumentation, the beginning lyrics are:
...cause I slept with the (ranchers/farmers) daughter,
I swam across the river (trying to save my life)
unfortunately that's all I can really remember, the type of melody and arrangement it has, is similar the Grand Funk Railroad "Some kind of wonderful".

That sounds close to a song by Uriah Heep entitled "Stealin'". The songs begins with just vocals and organ I think. He starts out singing, "Take me across the water, 'cause I need someplace to hide, I done the rancher's daughter and I sure did hurt his pride. Well there's a hundred miles of desert lies between his heart and mine. I don't need no food or water Lord, cause I'm runnin' out of time". (That's close anyway).
