Subject: The Barron Knights

Written By: andythatsme on 09/22/03 at 10:54 a.m.

Hi there! Can anyone identify the name of the song that these lyrics come from? It was sung by the Barron Knights - a British (?) parody band. The song is basically in three parts and includes:

PART 1 (to the tune ???)
"Do you wanna dine in style
On a river boat down the Nile
Or do you wanna find a space so wide
And eat in the countryside?

I went for a picnic on the ??? farm
My mother said "Be careful. Don't you come to no harm"
I thought that I could jump above the 5 bar gate
But there were 6 - too late!"

PART 2 (to the tune "Pop Muzik")
"We took a walk across the street
To find a little place to eat
There were 5 of us to please
So we ended up in the old chinese

Hello! Table for two
Chop, chop, chop suey, Chop, chop, chop suey
Come into my restaurant
Feeling very hungry?
You can have a takeaway
If you're in a hurry"

PART 3 (to the tune "If I Said You Had A Beautiful Body...")
I was driving down to Smithfiled Market
My refridgerated lorry full of meat
I cam across a lovely young hitchhiker
I stopped and this is what she said to me

"If I jumped into the back of your lorry
Would you take me to Finchley
Or you can drop me at the Angel
Cos I'm going out with Neville tonight"

Well, Andy, if it's on "Twisting the Knights Away", I've got it at home... but I must admit it doesn't sound familiar...

But yes, the Barron Knights were (are-I think they're still touring) a British parody, er, ensemble: often very funny but with an annoying habit of not finishing their parodies ;-)
