Subject: congratulations Guy DiRito
he's got 2000 votes already and he's only been submitting for a little over 2 months. That's quite an accomplishment
Subject: Re: congratulations Guy DiRito
It sure is, I've been writing longer than him and I haven't even gotten 100 votes.

Congrats man, wow, Id better start to write more...
Subject: Re: congratulations Guy DiRito
Just had a quick look at his author's page: he's done it without any single big-hitters, just great consistency across the range. Hell, he's catching me up, too ;-)

As an interested observer can I make comments on this.
I had a quick look at Guy DiRitos page. ISTM that he mainly does well known songs. When I look at the parody front page I will only read the ones based on songs I know well. Otherwise how can I judge 'meets the pacing of the original'?
May be that's why he gets a lot of votes

That's a *heck* of an accusation to throw around! Where is your evidence of this or is it just sour grapes?
I think you should either prove it or apologise to Guy DiRito

Guy's parodies
In Guy's defense...he has almost 200 parodies, and a good parody will receive 10 votes at least. Almost all of his parodies are excellent in quality.

Congrats Guy, and good luck for many more votes.

Boy, do I need to work on my parody skills, then! I'm lucky to break double digits on any parody and even when I have gone over 9, I've tended to start out with 5 or 6 and the rest came gradually, after that. Now, it could be coincidence, but for the last few weeks, it seems like if Phil, Claude or Spaff comment favorably or Wild Man bestows chalupas on one of mine that would normally get 5 or 6, I'm almost guaranteed to get between 8 and 12 initial votes and, along that same vein, "Stealing Movies," which I submitted months ago, has racked up almost 10 new votes since Phil mentioned it in another thread on this board. (Thanks Phil -- the check is in the mail. ;) )
Back to Guy, this isn't going to make sense to anyone, at first, but I'm surprised Guy doesn't have *more* votes than he has. Why do I say that? Well, based on yesterday's glance at his author's page, I'd say his average votes per parody is somewhere around 12 where mine is around 7 and a half.
I would have guessed there'd be a much wider gap because Guy has almost constant name exposure -- he's submitted a lot in a very short period of time and he's not shy about leaving comments. Chances are he's developed a following of people who look for his name in the new parodies list. By comparison, I submit sporadically and I'm still pretty shy about leaving comments... it's a wonder anyone knows I'm here. Besides all that, as Karen mentioned, Guy's mainstream to obscure originals ratio is impressive. It's certainly much higher than mine. A parody to a classic song most people can hum/sing straight through even after not having heard it in a couple of decades is bound to get more votes than a parody to a song that most people have never even heard *of.*

Happy to oblige ;-)

I just wanted to point out the flip side to that: I like writing parodies to all sorts of different music, from heavy metal to Britney, hymns and operetta - I can even put in rap, too, now :-)
You can't do this if you're focussing on vote counts alone: it's fun to use the occasional obscure song, wondering when the first vote will turn up. My Andersen Accounting parody (to the tune of G&S's "Duke of Plaza-Toro") took about six months before it got a vote; slightly more surprising (to me, anyway) was possibly my most poetic parody to Marillion's "Script for a Jester's Tear", which also took ages to get a vote... and one corker I'd love to record (when I can talk my daughter into doing it with me - we've sung it through once and though it's tricky it works really well) parodies Meatloaf's "Dead Ringer for Love"... and this one has only attracted just one vote.

I think he's an old dude and he just likes the music from the 60's and 70's. He probably grew up with that music and just likes it alot. I don't think he is all that vote conscious, he just likes to write parody. He seems a bit extroverted and probably just enjoys having people see his work. I think most of his flame comments are there for amusement only. He seems to like to stir things up a lot. Are we even sure that is his real name?
