Subject: parody survivor 2003 (song writing contest)
It's been a while since there's been a parody writing contest so I'm going to start a new one. The format as going to be like survivor, with the members of the contest voting for which of the parodies submitted for the contest is the least well-written. votes for who has the worst parody must be sent to me through a private message on this messageboard after the friday update and before the monday update. If you don't have any computer access over weekends then unfortunately it's not a good idea for you to participate in this contest. But before that sort of voting starts i'm going to have to select the 8 contestants in parody survivor 2003.
Subject: Re: parody survivor 2003 (song writing contest)
And the way that the eight contestants will be picked is that anyone who wants to be in it will have to write a parody to any song in the current billboard top 50 about any topic that you want as long as it follows the amiright submission guidelines (it can't be a previously written song all material for parody survivor 2003 must be new) and post the link to the song on this thread. You are only allowed one entry per person... it's dinnertime now i'll finish this thought later.

That should make it even easier to write something for this round... there are so many songs that you can write about how bad it is. Anyway i've done parodies of 7 songs on that chart at the moment and i should finish my 8th before tomorrow so it shouldn't be too hard to do one in a week... and i'm willing to extend the deadline a little if that's necessary to get it off the ground but i'd rather not.

Subject: Re: parody survivor 2003 (song writing contest)
i guess this means i'm probably not going to see 8 new entries this week if i keep the current rules. I'm going to keep the top 50 as a possible later round so everyone should start thinking of parodying current hit songs, but i'm CHANGING THE INTRO ROUND TO ANYTHING YOU WANT AS LONG AS ITS WRITTEN THIS WEEK AND PARODYING A SONG FROM THIS MILLENIUM (THE 20O0'S)
Subject: Re: parody survivor 2003 (song writing contest)
I have made a parody
"Fried Chicken (Pt. 2)"
Parody of "Ignition" by R. Kelly

Subject: Re: parody survivor 2003 (song writing contest)
i'm pushing back the deadline for entries for this contest to july 25th. you just have to write a parody of some song from the 2000's in the next couple of weeks. listening to some new music to make a parody of won't hurt you and no matter what the voting results say people in generalould rather hear a parody to a new song than something from 30 years ago if they are of equal merit. So get writing, i only have one entry so far which is from stg
Subject: Re: parody survivor 2003 (song writing contest)
"generalould" should say "general would"
Subject: Re: parody survivor 2003 (song writing contest)
Hey Tone-Def--you can fix spelling errrors and other such things by clicking "Modify" on your post. :)
I'll get my entry in sometime soon, hopefully :-/

That's pretty much the line I took... but after looking through forty sets of lyrics from the top 50, pretty much all of them are lyrically so abysmal and written with such microscopic verbal ability and an incredibly unimaginative choice of subject matter, there was only one choice to make... Yes, I guess I'll enter ;-)

Is there a smiley for a hat being thrown into the ring?
No? Well... here's my entry: If I wrote the songs to the tune of Daniel Bedingfield's absoeffinglutely dreadful "If I'm Not The One"...
One thing I must say, however, is that this is definitely the worst song I've ever parodied. It has no redeeming features whatsoever, and the author who wrote it, the arsehole who sings it and the production company who released it should all be lined up against the wall and shot. Or even better, put in a cell in Iraq or Afghanistan and made to listen to it over and over.

I agree with you man, that song sucks... the original, not your parody that is. It's definitely not my favorite parody by you, but maye me hating the song and having to sing to the tune of it had some effect. ;)

I think listening to and singing along with the original had an effect on me, too: by the end I was writing lines like this:
"And the only soul in the song is the arsehole who is singing it"
...which was possibly the most polite line I could think of by the end of it.

I came out with 12.41.
Not that I check or anything. ;)
Subject: Re: parody survivor 2003 (song writing contest)
i'm just at 8.37. Just checked now. Its actually pretty high for me if i get 8 votes on a song, a lot of songs accumulate votes as time goes on i'm not sure why. For example, i think my most voted on song, which has 36 votes now, had 3 or 4 votes in its first day. Also, i',m hoping that some more of these posts will be entries and not voting totals since i've only got 3 entries so far. Even though it will make things a lot easier if there are only 8 or so entries

I'm working on mine right now. The only good parody ideas I have right now are to 70s and 80s songs though. I'll come up with something hopefully tonight or tomorrow...

Subject: Alrightie, I´m in
Can´t have a competition with all participants winning a medal, right? At least someone must be below the podium looking up to the winners so they can feel god about themselves for being there. :-)
And maybe, maybe I can take you wdh!
STG and Phil Alexander are in a league of their own, right? (I especially like the way Phil varies his themes, cos they seem to be themes I appreciate much too). But we can battle it out for third place.
Anyway. Since I already had this song in the making this is my entry. "Exhibition" to the tune of Jewels "intuition":

Hey all, I'm back, and I'm going to kick this contest in the ass...literally. After a long hard fought Amiright Idol which ended by default, I'm ready for this. Bring it on. My parody will here soon.
Subject: Re: parody survivor 2003 (song writing contest)
I'll be up by Friday. Just need to write it. And get an idea.
Subject: Re: parody survivor 2003 (song writing contest)
I shall submit "Move Mitch, Get Out and Pay" (The Monopoly Song)
Parody of Ludacris' "Move B*tch, Get Out Da Way"

Subject: Re: parody survivor 2003 (song writing contest)
I have a question Tone-Def... can we use cover songs? Because I might want to do a parody of "Drift Away" which is Uncle Kracker's version, and it is technically from this decade. But it feels almost like cheating, because that song is much better known from the 70s by Dobie Gray,l so it will probably be better-known and more voted on than some of these newer, lesser-known songs for the contest. Tell me what you think. Thanks.
Subject: Re: parody survivor 2003 (song writing contest)
drift away is legit. It's just my vote that matters in this round anyway and my decision isn't necessarily going to match up exactly with voting totals. Also, unless there are a lot of submissions in the next couple of days, everyone who enters is in. I'd rather extend the contest a little than exclude a worthy contestant

Lol, I hope I'm in it, seeing as how I already submitted my 2nd round song.... ;D
Subject: Re: parody survivor 2003 (song writing contest)
I submitted mine. It's called "Procrastinate" to the tune of "Drift Away" by Uncle Kracker featuring Dobie Gray. Hope y'all like it. :)
BTW, this is how I got the idea: I waited until 10:00 Thursday night to submit a parody that's due Friday morning ;D
Subject: Re: parody survivor 2003 (song writing contest)
I suck. I've just been too swamped at work, getting ready for a vacation, etc, so I didn't get one done. Sorry guys and gals. I'll be sure to read the entries as they come along (and vote, of course...even if it doesn't count toward the competition)
Subject: Re: parody survivor 2003 (song writing contest)
Oh well Jeff... there will be more contests to participate in in the future I'm sure. :) Sorry you didn't get a chance to submit something.
I almost forgot about it--which leads me to writing this parody:
http://www.amiright.com/parody/2000s/unclekrackerfeaturingdobiegray0.shtml
"Procrastinate" parody of "Drift Away" by Uncle Kracker and Dobie Gray.
Subject: Re: parody survivor 2003 (song writing contest)
congrats... you're all in. This is the last day and there's only 7 entries (stg, phil, wdh, blo-town, snaggletooth, jared lerner, and lebiew). The limit is 8 so 7 is definitely legit. Good luck to everyone in the next round, remember that you have to write a song making fun a a musician not named avril lavigne, britney spears, or michael jackson.
