Subject: Re: Sorry for all the hype on amIright,

with his new polka "Angry White Boy Angst Polka"
Subject: Re: Sorry for all the hype on amIright,
heres the full track listing:
* "Couch Potato" (parody of Eminem’s "Lose
Yourself")
* "Hardware Store"
* "Trash Day" (parody of Nelly’s "Hot In Herre")
* "Party At The Leper Colony"
* "Angry White Boy Polka"
* "Wanna B Ur Lovr"
* "A Complicated Song" (parody of Avril Lavigne’s
"Complicated")
* "Why Does This Always Happen To Me"
* "Ode To A Superhero" (parody of Billy Joel’s "Piano

* "Bob"
* "E-Bay" (parody of Backstreet Boys "I Want It That
Way")
* "Genius In France"
is it just me, or is Weird Al not putting as much effert into writting PARODIES as he used too......I honestly have a feeling that this album is gonna suck...I dont know..COuch Potato will probably be funny..I dont see how Trash day works into the title, but he probably made it work....I dont know anymore....Ill just go listen to "amish Paradise" and "smells like Nirvana" over and over again, because I think those are his best parodies ever that arent just funny because of the video....
Alright call it blasphomy all you want....I think Weird AL is losing it
Subject: Re: Sorry for all the hype on amIright,
oh wait....
It's getting dirty here, so why not take out all the trash .....yeah, i can see that working....
btw, there are two tribute songs on this CD....Bob is a tribute to Dylan, and Genius in France is a tribute to Frank Zappa

I'll reserve judgement until I hear the album a few hundred times. In the meantime, I've been listening to Six Pack of Judd...six country parodies by Cledus T. Judd, which came out a couple weeks ago. He's pretty funny if you like country stuff (especially his older albums)

I got something if you like country....the band Hayseed Dixie originaly started as a blue-grass AC/DC cover band...and yes it is as funny as it sounds....they recently did an album of Kiss covers as well....there is also a band (I forget the name) that does blue-grass covers of Pink Floyd songs...I remember hearing them do "Brain damage" and laughing histerically.......there is also a band that does regae covers of Pink Floyd songs, but their more serious than the bluegrass covers.......
Subject: Re: Sorry for all the hype on amIright,
I have that AC/DC tribute! It's hilarious, I almost died laughing the first time I heard it! I didn't know they did Kiss as well, and haven't heard the Floyd album, so I'll have to look for that...thanks for the heads up

these were the first people I know of who did country versions of Floyd, so maybe they inspired someone else..
Subject: Re: Sorry for all the hype on amIright,
I heard a full version of Couch Potato (it's on MSN somewhere), and it's HILARIOUS. If I can find the link or the lyrics somewhere (I've seen both linked to on a Weird Al messageboard I visit), I'll post.
Subject: Re: Sorry for all the hype on amIright,
Here are my two cents on this weird al issue...
First of all, the albums only seem to come out once people have forgotten about him. The last one came out the summer when i was taking driver's ed... which was a full 4 years ago. The man does his homework dring his time off.
I, personally think that Al's originals are his best stuff. Sure, he needed fat and eat it and my balogna and whatever to become popular, but his real genius lies in the true classics "one more minute", "Don't you love me anymore", "This is the life". "trigger happy", "Albuquerque", and countless others to mention.
His parodies have to fall in line with what pop culture deems appropriate for the time, which makes me idolize him even more. It isn't every man that could think of a funny topic... finalize a parody, perform it, mix it, produce it, market it, and package it in time before the pop culture craze dies out. So, I think we need to give Al a little more credit. Some of his parodies are classics. We all have bad parodies. Mike and I would like to wipe off "love of a mormon" and some others, but for every "amish paradise" there will be 2 or 3 "living with a hernia"s.
Let's not forget this man has an architecture degree from an extremely prestigious school. Let's reserver judgment until we realize that the songs aren't getting better with time, as most of his do.
Subject: Re: Sorry for all the hype on amIright,
Hey! Living with a hernia was funny! lol
Subject: Re: Sorry for all the hype on amIright,
Our opinions on the parodies probably depend a lot on what we thought of the originals.
I didn't really like the Godfather's song (much less the movie which it promoted), so the parody didn't really pique my interest.
The Saga Begins, on the other hand, took a great song and a great franchise (OK that particular movie didn't live up to all expectations). And the amount of info crammed into it was incredible. That was some seriously sustained songwriting!
I think the greatest part of Weird Al's talent is to write songs that don't actually directly satirise the tune on which they are based. It's a whole 'nother level of originality.
Subject: Re: Sorry for all the hype on amIright,
see, Al is just you know really cool...i LOVE his stuff...granted, Polka Party wasn't that great of an album, and i don't care that much for Even Worse either, but i LOVE Running With sCissors hehe

Hayseed Dixie are currently touring Australia!
I saw them on the TV show "Rove Live" last night. Not bad ... :)
