Indeed this tune was perfomed in 1983 as a hit by Taco Okerse, a German interior decorator who, in my opinion, looked more than a little bit weird.
HOWEVER, Puttin' on the Ritz was actually composed by the timeless talent of Irving Berlin 8) in the 1930's, and it was popularized by none other than Fred Astaire.
Here is a link for more info on Taco http://www.popmatters.com/music/reviews/t/taco-after.html , who I think was on one of those "One Hit Wonder" episodes on VH-1.
Dang, the guy even has his own website: http://www.taco-online.de/us-version/the_story.htm . Just goes to show there is no limit to which one can milk a retreaded hit.
I wonder when "Taco's Greatest Hits" will come out?

I saw Clark Gable sing "Puttin' on the Ritz" in some old movie and of course you had Gene Wilder and Peter Boyle singing it in the movie "Young Frankenstein."

True - they're actually Spanish. But I think that's close enough... ;)
