Subject: the song with words

Written By: darrinbaines on 04/30/03 at 02:59 a.m.

hey everybody,

pardon what may be a really dumb question, but i'm desperate after long searching for a particular track by unknown group from yesteryear. i hope someone can help me as i am nowhere near english speaking people.

category: a rather melodic apparently UK dance number of late 80s/early 90s (never heard it on the radio in the U.S., but i did once in a while in dance clubs)

other remarks: the main singer, a dude, had a clear really seriously melancholy British accented voice, kind of like the main Depeche Mode singer or a more serious Dead or Alive dude(?). the chick vocalist sang the chorus/refrain (whatever it's called) that contained the words "love--it's a numbers game. you don't have worry because it's easy to play."

the melody for "love--it's a numbers game" sounded a lot like that of another much older song called "It's the same old song," (but with a different feeling since you've been gone)" by the Four Tops of Motown fame.

the "you don't have to worry" bit sounds exactly like "but with a different feeling" by the Four Tops.

maybe it would be easiest to ask the Four Tops who has been lifting their music.

thanks for reading,

darrin

It took me a minute but I'm relatively certain I have your answer. The song is called "The Different Story (World of Lust and Crime)" by Peter Schilling. Yes, the same Peter Schilling that sang "Major Tom (Coming Home)". It was a minor hit for him in 1989. Write me if you need any help locating a copy of the song.

thank you, NewRomantic, for your invaluable tip regarding Peter Schilling's "The Different Story (World of Lust of Crime)". i would have never found it by myself in a million years.

i'm excited about getting a copy, used or new. hopefully i can find it with no problems. thanks again.

i would have never guessed that he was a German singing in English either. although i think he is a good musician, he doesn't have much business sense in the naming of his tunes. why couldn't he emulate Madonna or the Pet Shop Boys in that respect?!

may the oldies gods protect you and you stay forever young!
