Subject: Who doth these lyrics belongith to?
"we are old, we are young, we are in this together, vagabonds
and children forever, with pulses ragin' and eye's full of wonder....... its possibly from mid seventies,
and intro is long and is just violins and then it kicks in with a marching beat drum and guitars etc.

Is this the one? By this reckonin' it would be New Model Army's Vagabonds.

Lyrics:
We follow the taillights out of the city
Moving in a river of red
As the colours fade away from the dusky sunset
We roll for the darkness ahead
Chorus:
We are old, we are young, we are in this together
Vagabonds and children, prisoners forever
With pulses a-raging and eyes full of wonder
Kicking out behind us again
Night-time City Beat the radio is calling
The lost and lonely in vain
Out here we are running for the wide open spaces
The road-smell after the rain
Chorus:
We are old, we are young, we are in this together
Vagabonds and children, prisoners forever
With pulses a-raging and eyes full of wonder
Kicking out behind us again
And watching as a boy alone at the quayside
The ships loading cargo in the night
Their names all calling to faraway places
The years go past, the miles go by
And still this childhood romance will not die

HeeHee! I actually know the answer to this. At least I think this is the one you are talking about ::)
Those lyrics are from a song valled "Vagabond" by New Model Army. I was waaaay into them back in my "punk rocker" days in the late 80's. I believe that album was out sometime between 85-89. :-/ So if you are looking for one that was out in the 70's, then I imagine NMA covered it.

It was written by Justin Sullivan (NMA) in 1987

Your "mystery song" is "Do You Wanna Get Away" by Shannon, a moderate hit here in the U.S. in the Spring of '85. It was off her 1985 album, also titled Do You Wanna Get Away. Unfortunately, the album is long out-of-print, although it was released on CD here in the U.S. Great stuff - I have the cassette myself... :-)

. Do you know where she lives
Well it's down by the big red barn
Near a creek, where nobody comes around.
Chorus..Well you can tap on her window
And knock on her door
See if she'll let you inside.
But the gypsy lady from (country creek ?)
Lets you stay all night.
::)
Anybody every heard this 1970's song? I remember it, but have no idea who sang it
