Subject: A-Idol's Submitted Parodies That Stood-Out, So Far
For Me :D :
In No Particular Order:
"Welcome to the Jungle" Originally by Guns n' Roses
"Welcome to McDonald's" Parody by My name is Kenny
"Gangsta's Paradise" Originally by Coolio
"Small Shack With Some Rice (The Joe Millionaire Song!)" Parody by Jared Lerner
"Bad" Originally by Michael Jackson
"Crap" Parody by Phil Alexander
"I Can't Fight This Feeling Anymore" Originally by REO Speedwagon
"I Can't Keep This Diet Anymore" Parody by Jeff Buchoff
All of the ones submitted to AmIright Idol look good, just that I'm not familiar with the some of the original tunes in order to fairly comment on them.
Do you have an opinion to express on the parodies submitted so far?
Have a go! ;D
Subject: Re: A-Idol's Submitted Parodies That Stood-Out, So
Of the ones where I know the original, I like these:
Kenny's "Welcome to Macdonalds" - always been a favourite of mine, especially the "g-g-g-g-g-g-grease" line ;-)
I thought JJ's "Super Tacos" was a very well-constructed song, with good use of the original and a strong story-line.
Jon Clemence's "Chemistry" - it made me want to write my own "pro-chemistry" variant, being a chemist myself. (sort of "Chemistry, I made C3H5(NO3)3, But I blew up the laborat'ry, It's so much fun is chemistry")
Phil
PS It's the formula for nitroglycerine

Of the entries I've read... I enjoy the "Super Tacos" song. I've never actually seen Mary Poppins, but I knew how the song went anyway. Great job to the author!
Ciao,

More to add (It's still very early in the day too):
"Dancing Queen" Originally by ABBA
"Snack Machine" Parody by Royce Miller
"American Pie" Originally by Don McLean
"Mathmatical Pi" Parody by Double E

I'm capturing all the judging and stuff, and creating web pages based around it..
http://www.amiright.com/parody/idle/index.shtml
so you don't have to read the thread to see all the entries so far, I'll keep this page up to date as much as possible.

Lest my math skills fail me, the Joe Millionaire totals add up to 41, not 36

um, yes, yes it does... my biggest fear is that I would miscount someone's totals on Monday morning, and here, I have done only one, and I couldn't get it right..

Quoting:Each week different constrants are picked for the contestants, one week contestants may be required to write a serious parody, another week they may be required to write a Sk8ter Boi parody.
End Quote
Please, not another Sk8er Boi parody... I'm not sure I could keep "Fellater boi" clean enough ;-)

In assessing the parodies that stand out, I am also struck by some very funny parodies that did not get submitted:
I really enjoyed "Diarrhoea Streaming" by Phil Alexander, "The Chugger" by Jeff Reuben, "Master of the Mouse" by Rice Cube & Watt Daddy, and "Miss Thunder Thighs" by Klarissa, and several others as well, but the judges will not see them this round. I hope that all of you get the opportunity to submit them in subsequent rounds.
I also commend the authors of these parodies for not complaining about only being able to submit one parody.

Thanks John,
I can only hope that if I make it to the next round, the category is beer!

Thanks

Thanks for your kind words, John :) I hope you did get to see our "Instant Coffee" parody, unfortunately it was submitted pre-comments :-/

Rice...you know you can get comments added to your old stuff, right?

Yeah, but I don't know how busy Chucky is so I don't want to bother him too much. Thanks for the heads-up though ;)

no.. it certainly will not be another Sk8ter Boi.. maybe something extremly hard, like Bohemian Rhapsody.. that would help narrow the field quickly..

I avoid Avril Lavigne like the bubonic plague. And Bohemian Rhapsody, though a cool song, has been done to death on your site, as has American Pie...any other suggestions?
Subject: Re: A-Idol's Submitted Parodies That Stood-Out, So
hmm... it probably wont matter to me because my chance of making it through this field are microscopic (unless all three judges happen to like my song - i personally think that the judging should be out of 10 since theres very likely to be tons of ties with 23 people submitting their best work) theres also no point in trying to narrow down the field when youve already got just 8 people left after the initial round but for next time i think instead of submitting their best work everyone should have to parody ... well im not sure what yet but probably some song that hasnt come out yet now and is just getting big then

to be honest, I'm not even sure I am going to pick a single song to parody.. the first 8 contestants are going to have to parody a subject that is extremly stupid and funny, and is starting to become an internet obsession lately..
Subject: Re: A-Idol's Submitted Parodies That Stood-Out, So
i have another suggestion that probably wont be followed - instead of excluding most of the entrants from the second round i think that five should be eliminated each of the first few rounds until there is a single digit number of contestants. that way too would also fight against the problem of experience that almost got me, royce, stg, mike florio, and will tong all disqualified from this.

I did read it - good topic, good chorus, humorously done! :)
Subject: Re: A-Idol's Submitted Parodies That Stood-Out, So
I was looking through old parodies to make sure I didn't duplicate someone's already-published works, and I came across Evan L. Heller's Beatles parodies. That guy was so good at parodies, I kinda wish he hadn't disappeared off the map :-/

I wish I'd thought of this earlier...do you think if we were to track him down he'd be interested in entering? :) I'm curious to see what he can do with "Octopus' Garden" ;D

I don't know what ever happened to Evan, he used to submit on a pretty regular basis, but since his parodies were generally on the Beatles, I don't think he got as many votes as some of the more popular and current titles do, and he got a little discouraged
Subject: Re: A-Idol's Submitted Parodies That Stood-Out, So
I don't think I submitted my best either. I tried to submit one of my better ones (hopefully) that hadn't gotten as much feedback, so I'd get new feedback on it...for better or worse.

I wish I did, but Tone-def told me to just try, but oh well.My best is probably
