Subject: Did any parody authors out there need corrections?

Written By: ChuckyG on 01/27/03 at 09:03 a.m.

Before I do another update of a couple parodies today, does anyone need commentary sections added, or corrections to an existing parody?

usually I prefer to do corrections all at once.. and I had a couple I needed to do today.. actually, I prefer if people send me personal messages on the messageboard, so I can queue them up for when I do make a batch of corrections.

Hi Chucky,

Yes, please: could you change "Tolkein" to "Tolkien" in my Frodo and Sam parody http://www.amiright.com/parody/70s/johncougarmellencamp0.shtml

Thanks.

PS Very odd... and it shows what a rather sad person I am that I spotted this at all...

Going into my parody authors page http://www.amiright.com/parody/authors/philalexander.shtml shows 1107 votes in total, averages 4.19/4.08/4.11 ... but ... but going into the list by clicking the "Phil Alexander" in title of on of the parodies http://www.amiright.com/cgi-bin/search_authors.cgi?AUTHORPhil%20AlexanderAUTHOR shows 1108 votes (I guess it's run real-time rather than overnight), but averages of 4.15/4.04/4.07 - which are way too disparate for one vote to make that kind of difference... Not that it matters that much, I just thought I'd point it out ;-)

the voting totals for the parody authors are calculated when I run the parody author update after doing a parody index update (when I finish adding parodies for the day). Voting totals on parodies occur in real time. There may be a problem, but maybe not.. you might have gotten an all 1's vote, which could drop it a decent amount...

By my arithmetic, a difference of 0.04 on all three topics over 1100 votes would require a vote of -44 (besides, I checked the one song which had a different count, and its numbers had gone up... I'm trying to work out what sort of "damn why didn't I spot that" sort of bug would give that kind of maths error - it's approximately a 1% variation.

that confused me for a little while too but i'm pretty sire i've got it figured out. In the official daily counts the songs with no votes don't count but in the realtime counts then the songs with no votes count as all zeroes

Guess you could be right: I have 1 (out of 110) songs with no votes, and approx 1% deviation on the scoring... Well spotted ;-)

hmm.. I thought I had changed the code to prevent that, but maybe I didn't... or maybe I lost that change in the process of working on something else.. that would explain it though.

The parody ''Where's Joe'' by Cwissy (originally 'What's Up' by 4 Non Blondes) should be 90s, not 80s. The original song came out in 1993. The URL, by the way, is http://www.amiright.com/parody/80s/4nonblondes0.shtml

Chucky,
I think all parodies by Bob O'Mara need corrections. He obviously forgot to set the decade on all of them because they all say 60s, which is incorrect because all of the original songs were nonexistent then, as were most of the original performers. These are the ones that were "new" today:
"My Sack of Rice" (originally "My Sacrifice" by Creed; should be 2000s; URL is http://www.amiright.com/parody/60s/creed1.shtml) :(
"Last Dessert" (originally "Last Resort" by Papa Roach; should be 2000s; URL is http://www.amiright.com/parody/60s/paparoach0.shtml)
"In The Pen" (originally "In The End" by Linkin Park; should be 2000s; URL is http://www.amiright.com/parody/60s/linkinpark2.shtml)
"Bell Boy" (originally "Cow Boy" by Kid Rock; should be 2000s; URL is http://www.amiright.com/parody/60s/smashmouth0.shtml)
"Nuisance" (originally "All Star" by Smash Mouth; should be 90s; URL is http://www.amiright.com/parody/60s/smashmouth0.shtml)

Well, on my "Gonna Bomb Afghanistan"
http://www.amiright.com/parody/90s/alanjackson2.shtml

where it reads:

(instrumental break)

(repeat chorus)

I'm gonna bomb Afghanistan
And drive Osama out of there
Yeah, I'm gonna bomb Afghanistan
And drive Osama out of there

it should read:

(instrumental break)

(repeat first verse)

(repeat chorus)

I'm gonna bomb Afghanistan
And drive Osama out of there
Yeah, I'm gonna bomb Afghanistan
And drive Osama out of there

Thanks.

Sorry to bug you again, but there are two other paordies that are in the incoorect decades. These two are labeld as 90s when they should be in the 2000s.  :(

1. "Own My Own Gun" (originally "Soak up the sun" by Sheryl Crow; URL is http://www.amiright.com/parody/90s/sherylcrow10.shtml) The original song is definitely a 2000s song because it came out in 2002; in fact, it's currently up for a grammy nomination.

2. "My Heads Split Open" (originally "With Arms Wide Open" by Creed; URL is http://www.amiright.com/parody/90s/creed4.shtml) The original song came out in the year 2000; in fact, I believe it won a 2000 grammy for best rock song.
