Subject: Who Has Parodied A Song That You've Never Heard?
What songs have you parodied that you've never even heard before? It's not really something I recommend, as it is very hard to do...
Here are mine--
"Misery" by Soul Asylum (I parodied it off Weird Al's version :P)
"Basket Case" by Green Day (I had heard it, just not for a really long time)
"Mercury Blues" by Alan Jackson (see explanation of Basket Case)
I haven't done it a lot, obviously, and don't plan on it... I was just wondering what songs that you've done, and wondering if it affected the quality of your parodies..

well before i learned the method of going to lyrics.com, copying and pasting, i only parodies songs that i had in my cd collection, or that i had downloaded off of Kazaa, but i feel that copying and pasting has made it easier, and yes there have been a few times were i parodied a song that i wasnt too familiar with, one being Clean Your Room to click click boom by Saliva, and well it really sucked. off hand i cant think of any more, but yeah i wouldnt recommend it.

I'm thinking of doing one for Sk8ter Boi since everyone else is doing it. I'll probably listen to it when I'm done and see how I did.

Subject: Re: Who Has Parodied A Song That You've Never Hear
I've been working on my version of Sk8er Boi for about 3 weeks now, and so far nobody else has taken my idea, so I'm gonna have to finish it up quick! I still havent heard the song besided clips of the chorus on TV or whatever.

A lot of parodies, but some are the highest scoring

Which ones? Just curious.
BTW, I'll do another duet with you... give me a day or two to get back to you, I got a lot going on.
Subject: Re: Who Has Parodied A Song That You've Never Hear
I did "Fixing A Hole" before I heard it, then heard it about a month later.
Same goes for "Mrs. Robinson", "Movies", and the 7-man(?) parody I did with S.T.G, DJ, Len, Xand, and them.
I also had heard "Control" (Janet) and "Don't Let Me Get Me" before I did them, but it had been forever since.

Trust me: listen to it first. The rhythm of the words as they're read is very different to the way she sings them, and you'll end up stressing in all the wrong places.
I was thinking of doing the same, provisional working title: "Latex Toi".. the main problem so far has been trying to keep it at amright rather than whatfreaks ;-)
Phil
PS On-topic: no, I've not written any parodies where I've not listened to the original first.

Latex Toi...funny title, and I can see why it's hard to keep it clean :)
Thanks for the advice...stressing the wrong syllables would be tough.
Subject: Re: Who Has Parodied A Song That You've Never Hear
ha ha, some of my best stuff I wasnt too sure of...
on "Little miss cant write songs," I wasnt too sure how the verses went...as well as "Seize the day," and look, both were number 1 hits, funny...
there were like little interludes in "Moronic," "Welcome to my bedroom," and "politics at amiright-oddity" that I wasnt too sure on...
most others I knew...

...I've got about twice the number of verses I need, but once censored it's down to a couple of verses ???; strikes me that I should do a follow-up Lavigne song : turn "Complicated" into "Lubricated" ;-)

Looks like I managed to keep it just about clean enough for Chucky ;-) (and I only hit {censored} once!)... http://www.amiright.com/parody/2000s/avrillavigne68.shtml
...though I think I cut some of the funnier bits ;-)

yeah, I wasn't really sure if I should let it go through or not.. we'll see if I get any negative comments..

Thanks, Chucky ;-) I didn't exactly use any rude words, though: it's all kind of implied rather than explicit

http://www.amiright.com/parody/misc/buddyholly3.shtmlraining in my heart - not heard since 1990
http://www.amiright.com/parody/60s/bobdylan13.shtmlhe was a friend of mine -i did this from Mercury Rev's cover (and the one on the site is the less libelous version ;)
Subject: Re: Who Has Parodied A Song That You've Never Hear
I haven't submitted this, but I did a parody of a Britney Spears B-side called "I'm So Curious," for a Ghostbusters musical (Which includes original songs as well). I am planning on submitting my song parodies from the GB musical on Amiright soon.
